The i stands for interlaced or interlayered, in which the refresh of the screen will layer; each other layer will refresh on the screen whereas p or progressive will refresh the entire screen at one time. Picture a page of evenly spaced dots. Each dot represents a pixel on screen that refreshes constantly. an I TV will refresh every other row of pixels/dots and P will refresh the entire screen.

I believe all Samsung brands have timers on them. I am also looking for a new TV with this feature. All Samsungs I have ever owned do have a sleep timer and a wake timer. Also I believe I found that Westinghouse does also.

what does widescreen mean?

answer 1
It means the format that the tv is veiwed in. Widescreen is in a 16/9 format where as the old format of most tube tvs was 4/3. Widescreen is now becoming the standart veiwing. Tvs that are widescreen also look wider and are less box looking. To my knowledge all lcd and Plazmas are this way. Not all channels are broadcasted this way but most newer tvs allow you to adjust the format.

Question

what is the difference between static ratio and dynamic ratio?

asked 5 years, 4 months ago

answer 1
The dynamic contrast ratio is a measurement of the brightest white the HDTV can produce as compared to the blackest black — not necessarily at the same time or in the same scene. For example, some LCD HDTVs use technology that brightens the overall picture in well-lit scenes to achieve very bright whites, and dims the overall picture in low-lit scenes to achieve truer, darker blacks. A measurement of the whitest white in the brightly lit scene compared to the darkest dark in the low-lit scene results in the dynamic contrast ratio specification.

The static contrast ratio measures dark and light in a static shot, or the highest contrast ratio achievable within the same scene at the same time. This is a smaller number but a truer measurement in terms of overall picture quality. It’s the measurement a shopper should take into account more so, perhaps, than the dynamic contrast ratio. But because the dynamic contrast ratio is a higher number, it’s often the number used on the specification card of the HDTV, especially if the static number is poor or average.

Just think of it as Celsius and Fahrenheit, they both measure the same thing just in a different way. Always compare static to static and dynamic to dynamic.
