My understanding is, you receive one free up-date. After that, it will cost you $69 every time you up-date.
Life time up-dates are $119.
You can buy a new GPS for $119.

yes! www.garmin.com their is a small app that you have to load on your computer and you will need a mini USB cord which you should be able to share from a generic MP3 player, USB portable hard drive, or cheap camera (non Kodak, nikon, Sony, Olympus, etc) brands. With Digi cameras it will be hit or miss. But one other idea would be that if your phone like the motorolla razor or black berrys has a data USB cord or a detachable USB cord that has a wall adapter, you can use those as well for this device. Point being you dont have to go out and buy a cord for $30 or more from Officedepot or other store when you might alrady have one around the house or you might be able to buy something else that uses the same cord for both devices. Just a thought. And yes you will need to do this to get the most up to date corrections. And I think that these updates come out annually.
