Personally, I didn't find it to be that great for my newborn. We used my daughters old one, put the head support in it and everything. My son was 6 lbs 7oz and 18" long and he was just way too small for the thing. However, now that he's filled out and has more support control, definitely a GREAT chair!!!
YES! This seat is for newborns, rear-facing from 5-30 lbs, and forward-facing from 20-40 lbs. Please note that the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that you rear-face your child to the limits of the seat, the law in most states is 1 year and 20 lbs before you can switch them forward, but the AAP recommends 2 years and 30 lbs before switching them.
It does not recline in the forward position. If you have a car you shouldn't have a problem with the angle of the seat, but in a truck on the rear bench seat, the carseat sits up pretty straight.
