Question

Does it spit dust?

Even though it is costly to continuously have to buy bags for the older type vacuum cleaners, my experience with the newer bagless ones is that they spit dust back out of cracks or holes and when you empty the canister/bucket you end up spilling dirt back out or have lots of dust flying back into the air. Does anybody have that kind of problem with this vacuum?

I actually like the dirt release function of this vacuum cleaner better than my old one. The opening to the canister is at the bottom. You push the release and it flops open and if you shake it a little the dirt and hair (I have a long haired dog) come right out if you haven't over filled the canister. If you empty it into a garbage can that is only about half full and let the bottom edge of the canister go about six to 8 inches into the trash can, it minimizes the dirt fly up. At least I don't have to stick my hand in to pull it out like I did with my old vacuum cleaner.

whenever I clean the canister the dirt and dust is all bunched up into a ball and doesn't spit dust around unless you were to pick this ball up to show it off (like my husband did the first time). You may want to clean the filter outside though.

Hi:
I was concerned about bagless that is why it took me so long to purchase one. But the 5 times that I emptied this it was a breeze. I did empty it on my upstairs porch and I put a plastic bag under the vacuum just in case. It DOES NOT spit out any dust which surprised me. Hope I helped.

Google "HEPA", and learn what HEPA means!

The filter in this vacuum catches particles down to 5 microns (dust).

answer 4
The Hepa filters are slowly leaving the market due to the expense for their replacement. What I have been noticing is the conversion to similar types of setups that the Nano has or multiple washable filters. Like everything else, if you clean them often and properly, they will perform like new and last a long time saving you $$$$

I clean my filters and plastic canister after every use in order to prolong the life of both. The instruction guide states that the washed parts, must be completely dry (usually at least 24 hrs.) before re-insertion and use in order not to get moisture in the motor, which could cause rust. The manual, I believe states the the filters should be good for about 6 months. To be HEPA certified, I believe that they have to the ability to stop/remove about 99.7% of a certain size particle from going into the exhaust of air. I don't believe the packing states that the filters are HEPA certified. A lot of "bag" vacuums (uprights and cannister and some bagless) do have HEPA certfication.

Question

What kind of belt does this use?

My nano stopped working yesterday. Made a horrible noise and has a horrible smell to it. I'm thinking the belt may need to be replaced as this is the first problem I've had in over 2 years of owning this great little vacuum. Does anyone know if Walmart carries the belt and if so, what kind of belt it takes?

Burning rubber and the roller brush not moving is a good way to determine if the belt snapped, dislodged, etc. But u said you smelled something which could also be stands of carpet wrapped around the roller brush prohibiting the rollers to spin properly, dragging the belt and forcing it to melt down... So, flip it over, look at whats wrapped around the brushes and clean it off. Next, keep it turned over, turn it on and see if the brush spins. If not, get a new belt (Misc Parts BELT 12080030 $3.99 -> per hoover.com)

I bought extra belts at a Walmart shortly after I bought the vacuum for spare parts. The package in the vacuum section of my Walmart stated that it was for the Nano Lite. Unfortunately, the associate told me that replacement parts were not being reordered by Walmart at this time. The belts appear to be available on the Hoover website. The numbers of the belt should be in the product manual packed with the product.

Honestly Id just buy a new vaccuum - not very 'green' or eco-friendly I know but the product is so cheap its not worth replacing a belt that is likely to be almost as much as a new vaccuum. Mine died recently too after 2 years (bottom suction stopped working, still works via the little hose) and Im just going to replace the unit entirely rather than throw good money at repairs which may not last long.

Not as a primary vac, but good for quick pickups. It is a 12 amp motor so it has a lot of suction, but many large heavy carpets shed and I think you would spend a lot of extra time cleaning with it rather than a large vac that has a bag. But since I only have hardwood and Pergo with area rugs (some are very heavy) I think if this is your only vac, you might wear it or yourself out faster!

Yes there is a filter - it is oblong and flat - about 6" x 8 or 10". Generally i do not touch the filter except maybe every 10 or more vacuuming sessions. I just dump the hair/dust out 80% of the time. Once in a blue moon I take the filter off the back and clean i with my hand, or wipe it - or even run water through it. It's easy.

I have tile in my kitchen and it seems to work okay on that (there is a setting for using it on hardwood floors), not the best on getting into corners but that is what the hose is for.I have read reviews from people saying the other version of this vacuum doesn't have enough suction but my vacuum just sucks right away. I haven't noticed the wheels scratching the floor, but tile is a bit harder than laminate wood. This vacuum isn't the easiest to turn on hard surfaces so I'd be careful when vacuuming your laminate if you're worried about scratches. I'm sure you'll get a feel for it though.

Absolutely not! This is a "dry" particle vacuum. Any moisture that is picked up will interact with the metal parts of the vacuum and possible to real damage to those parts. Look for a certified "wet-dry" vacuum that has a specialized tank to receive and hold moisture.

I have two long haired dogs from the human society. I used a very expensive one before Nano and was surprised how much dog hair the expensive one left, and Nano picked up afterwards.

Cleans pet hair just fine on the carpet mode. It isn't like a swiffer that barely has any suction to it. This has plenty of suction.

I find the vacuum picks up pet hair really well. I run a dog rescue and have 5-6 dogs inside my home. The vacuum picks up a ton of hair and lots of dog danger and skin cells. I love this vacuum. My $300 Hoover Windtunnel with a bag is downstairs in my basement - I use it down there - but I prefer this little lightweight vaccum for upstairs. I highly recommend it.
