Yes, as long as the controller contains the two joysticks. All original playstation controllers are compatible with PS2 while playing PS1 game on PS2, but you cannot play a PS2 game with a PS1 comtroller unless it has 2 joysticks. Even PS2 controllers are backwards compatible with PS1 console. These controllers are not compatible with PS3 since PS3 is wireless.

Well, if you look on the back of some games, it will say you can have up to 4 players. The truth is, you can only plug in 2 controlers. But if you have a 4 player game, you need to have 2 people share the controller.

your lense could be scrached or dirty you can use a lense cleaner and if that dont work it may be a short in the power supply thats the top two things that Ive herd of going wrong in the ps2.
if you willing to spend the money the ps3 is the way to go because if your also a movie watcher you can enjoy watching blu-ray movies and the resolution of the gameplay is outstanding. it makes the ps2 look like the N64

It's either broken or you need to do a POT adjustment, search that up on google & look into it. (A POT adjustment requires you to take your PS2 apart & mess with the inner parts & then re-build it.)

There isn't Memory in the PS2, you can have two memory cards in it, the Sony Memory Cards are 8MB, however you can get 3rd party Memory Cards like Katana Memory Cards, they have models with 16MB & 32MB, & Datel Max Memory Cards, they have models with 8MB, 16MB, 24MB, 32MB, & 64MB.
