Is this a suitable substitute for Smoked Gouda?
The ingredients / description leave me a little confused. It's "Naturally Hickory Smoked" but it's a processed cheese product.
It contains either Gouda OR Maasdam cheese - which makes me think that over time this "Smoked Goudam" could not be very consistent in flavor...
In any case - for a recipe calling for thin slices of smoked gouda would this be a better choice or would using normal sliced gouda be safer (since you know it's actually, you know, GOUDA?)

on Dutch Garden: Smoked Goudam, 10 Oz
Tastes like smoked cheese but will never be mistaken for real smoked gouda. Judged by itself, not a bad cheese.

I used this product to make a crescent roll wrapped baked Gouda, but it wouldn't melt, so unless you are using it cold, I would not substitute.
