No. Full grown oscars are a minimum 12", more commonly 14"-15". It's okay for one, but two is a crowd for oscars with this tank.

Yes, these are plastic covers with a small pane of glass sealed with silicone which the light hood sits upon. I just replaced these though after 8+ years with a better cover and lighting system.

There's a 55 gallon tank, a heater, a filter, a couple of filter cartridges, some dechlorinator, a net, and a bag of tropical fish flakes. I'm pretty sure that's all.

The biggest mistake beginners make is that they do not take the time to properly set up the stand and tank. Both must be levelled. A tank setup that is not level with cause more pressure to be put on one particular side of the tank than the others. Having a tank that is not level with always fail. I had this 55 gal setup from Wal-Mart for 8+ years and it has never leaked or cracked.

You don't have to purchase them right from the beginning, but you will Definately want them. Any fish will create waste. Even us fish owners do...when we put food into the tank for the fish. The food that is not eaten can be a huge problem if it is not cleaned or filtered out What is eaten, has to come out, so to speak! Fish don't want to swim around in their own waste! If you don't change the cartridge often enough, your filter just puts the harmful junk back in the tank after it runs thru the filter. It is generally recommended to change out that filter cartridge every 4-6 weeks. Personally, with freshwater, I don't believe it is necessary to do it nearly that often, but that is just my opinion. When I had freshwater, I only changed mine about every 3 months and things seemed to work fine, but you will eventually need them.
