Questions & Answers for Equate Equate Fiber Therapy Bulk-Forming Laxative 625mg, 140ct

Question

Equate Fiber Laxative. Why don't they dissolve?

Re: Equate Fiber Laxative. I tested a pill to see what would happen in my stomach. When I placed one in a glass of water it NEVER dissolved or changed in size, even when I added some vinegar and oil. When I put a teaspoon of Metamucil in water it swells up and gets thick, just like it is supposed to.

I think all those inactive ingredients may contribute to a slight coating on this oblong shaped tablet -- making it a tad easier to swallow than a round uncoated tablet ... Don't forget the stomach has a lot of other acid and enzymes for breaking stuff down ... The water recommendation may be more for ease of swallowing and preventing choking? ... Don't know what more to tell you -- just that it works!

Keep in mind, as most caplet type pills do these days, this pill has a coating on it that dissolves in your stomach acid, not water, vinegar or oil.

Compare the ingredients of this product, and metamucil (or the equate equivalent).

This product contains Calcium Polycarbophil 625 Mg Equivalent to 500 Mg Polycarbophil Bulk-Forming Laxative

Where as, last I checked, the equate "bulk forming" fiber/powder is some husk/fiber.

This product is calcium and some other ingredients in pill form.

Interesting, the name on the bottle says, "Fiber Therapy", however there is no fiber in it. It contains bulk forming laxative Calcium polycarbophil 625 mg equivalent to 500 mg polycarbophil. It also contains Calcium 140 mg and magnesium 10 mg.
Drink plenty of liquid when taking this product, at least 8 ounces minimum, but drink more.
For more information call: 888-287-1915
It says it is just as effective as fiber powders.
My doctor recommends Miralax everyday, forever, and take fiber, such as Benefiber.
This reviewed product may only be used for up to 7 days, if more days are needed, talk to your doctor.
Basically, it is a temporary fix.
