food and vegetables. I wouldn't use this as a rice cooker it burns the food.

You would be amazed at the amount of different foods you can prepare. You can even bake breads. Rice, meals, veg. etc. Wal-mart carries a Crock-pot cook book for $9.95. it is well worth buying, I did.

I would not call this a rice cooker or steamer...it is for stews, meats or dishes that require a liquid to cook in.

I suppose you could cook rice with the right insert as to not to scratch the non-stick surface. you can pretty much cook what you want in it.

Its a slow cooker, meat and casseroles, soups, chili, etc. Not a dedicated rice cooker.
