I actually OWN THIS ITEM and YES it does have a floating hinge which helps when cooking steaks or other thick items. As it has "only" 72 sq. in. of cooking space, it is ideal for a single person or couple--two steaks or four pork loin chops are about its limit. The center of the grill cooks slightly faster than the outer edges, but all meats I've cooked are cooked enough using the included instruction manual & cooking times table.
