answer 7
The gate is mounted on either side by screwing cups into either wall and then extending the 'feet' into the cups. The locking mechanism is pretty secure. Having said that, that's a powerful dog and may be able to force it. You should probably use sheet rock anchors, just in case.

Have 1 secured in drywall doorway, other in woodwork doorway. My dog's much smaller than yours, so I went over & pushed hard myself & tried to move gate -- it didn't move & I weigh A LOT more than your pup! Honesty Alert: had to snug up one of the corners after my 1st push but no movement after that. Hope this helps.

answer 11
It's pressure mounted, and is secured to a wood frame by pressure. It comes with wall cups to make it more secure. I would think using the wall cups and a tight pressure, might be much better than other pressure gates you might have used.

There are other brand of baby gates, there is one by evenflo that is made for the top of the stairs. I would assume any type of gate that is made for the top of the stairs would be the best in holding back the weight of the dog.

The only problem I forsee is that the tighter the pressure, the more the door comes together, that's how it's made, it's not a defect. However, you might need tremendous pressure for a Rottie. And it would make it so you would not be able to open the door to walk through.

Also, there is no way a rottie would fit through the small pet door. My dog is 25lbs and he fits through perfectly. It is a bit of snug fit, but it works for small to medium size dogs.

Question

Has anyone used this for kittens?

I have to keep my older cat seperated from my new kitten while I'm at work. I'd like to use a gate that has a pet door (so she can get out while I'm home) but I'm worried she'll be able to climb out of this. Do the verticle smooth bars prevent this?

I don't think this is the rigth gate for that job. Cats are basically snakes with fur, they could get through the open spaces pretty easily if they want.

answer 4
Smaller kittens would be able to go though the slates. Cats in their prime to older would be able to jump over the gate. I have two cats and sometimes they go through the little door and other times just for fun they jump over the gate. This would not keep your older cat from the kittens. Since they are older now, they may even be able to jump over it them selves. They start to do that pretty early. Good luck.

I'm not sure this is the gate for you since you have kittens. Because your kittens might be able to fit through the bars. They are a little over 2 1/2 inches width. But I see you posted this over a month ago, so maybe your kittens have gotten bigger so they won't fit through. Hope this helps!

Our adult car has not been able to get out of it so I doubt a kitten could climb over it, but depending on how small the kitten is, it might fit through the bars. They are about 3 inches apart.

No. You would need to open the cat door. How small is the puppy. The cat door is small for a cat but not for a dog unless it is a small dog like a puppy. If your puppy is larger than the cat then you just leave the cat door open.

The extensions are designed to fit in combination with each other, but proceed with caution. This product is build pretty well, but naturally the farther you stretch it the weaker it becomes. This company also provides extensions up to 24", as well as this alternate option:
