Questions & Answers for Carlson Carlson Extra-Wide Walk-Thru Gate with Pet Door 0930PW, White

Question

Has anyone used this for kittens?

I have to keep my older cat seperated from my new kitten while I'm at work. I'd like to use a gate that has a pet door (so she can get out while I'm home) but I'm worried she'll be able to climb out of this. Do the verticle smooth bars prevent this?

I have a 15 year old cat (6 lbs) who navigates through the gate or over it -- I'm happy because its the dogs I'm trying to keep out. This gate isn't going to keep cats or kittens on one side.

I don't think this is the rigth gate for that job. Cats are basically snakes with fur, they could get through the open spaces pretty easily if they want.

Smaller kittens would be able to go though the slates. Cats in their prime to older would be able to jump over the gate. I have two cats and sometimes they go through the little door and other times just for fun they jump over the gate. This would not keep your older cat from the kittens. Since they are older now, they may even be able to jump over it them selves. They start to do that pretty early. Good luck.

I'm not sure this is the gate for you since you have kittens. Because your kittens might be able to fit through the bars. They are a little over 2 1/2 inches width. But I see you posted this over a month ago, so maybe your kittens have gotten bigger so they won't fit through. Hope this helps!

Our adult car has not been able to get out of it so I doubt a kitten could climb over it, but depending on how small the kitten is, it might fit through the bars. They are about 3 inches apart.

most bedroom door ways will not need any of the extensions. a hallway or livingroom, kitchen openings may need the extensions. I use in my hallway and only have to use the small extension. The reach on the screw in ends are pretty long.

yes, but it comes with 2 extentions. So the gate goes 29 inches by itself and then upto 44 inches.

Carlson Extra Wide Gate with Pet Door:
•Convenient walk thru metal gate with small pet door.
•Includes 4 and 6 inch extensions and expands from 29 to 44 inches wide.
•Pressure mount installation system.
•Additional extensions for the Carlson Extra Wide Gate are sold separately.

I don't think so. You can either use the pressure mount system or you can actually mount the gate to the wall with screws. It's a pretty sturdy metal gate. They also have one that is "extra tall" if you're worried about your dog jumping over. Although the regular gate is pretty tall already.

This gate comes with pieces that allow you to screw it into the wall for absolute security. I have an australian shepherd and when she stands next to the gate, the top of her head is about 3/4 of the way up the gate, so depending on how high your pit bull could jump, she might be able to jump over it.

I am not certain, as I don't know how high your dog can jump. I have seen dogs do some amazing things, like almost clear a 6' fence, so I don't know. If you brace the gate properly as instructed, she won't knock it down. Maybe kennel her...

The gate comes with cups that can be attached with screws (the screws come with the gate). If you use the screws to attach the cups to the wall, and then fit the gate into those cups, I doubt that your dog could push it down.

If you don't do that, and he pushes long enough and hard enough, I think it could be pushed over. My border collie has not done that so far, but if he does, I'll attach the cups to the door opening - then he won't be able to budge it.

I doubt that your dog could jump it. It's pretty tall and you can put the bottom bar several inches above the floor to make the gate even taller. I put mine down on the floor, as I don't think my dog will try to jump it - I think it's tall enough for him to think twice about trying.

The gates tension rods work for our Collie/Aussie pup thus far. However, the gate does come with mounting brackets that you can screw into the wall to help stabilize the gate. The brackets are mounted, and the tension screws are placed within the mounts so they cannot move about.

Yes, she will be able to knock it down IF she discovers she can. You cannot turn the screws too tightly at top otherwise you cannot open or close it. However, it's highly unlikely she can jump over it, unless she's spring loaded. Even then I believe she would hurt herself if she did.

The easy answer - yes it will work

The extensions are designed to fit in combination with each other, but proceed with caution. This product is build pretty well, but naturally the farther you stretch it the weaker it becomes. This company also provides extensions up to 24", as well as this alternate option:

NO, You have to take off at least 2 inches for each extension. Gate goes out to 40 inches take 2 off the 6inch and thats only 44 inches.

The extensions fit together very well. I have two of the pet gates, and occasionally have to put the extensions together when I want to block a larger area.

answer 5
Absolutely! That's what the extensions are for. Once you add them and then use the pressure mount system to secure them together it will work great.

I have 3 of these and the extensions slip right over each other. I do not know if you will lose any integrity with the stability, but I doubt it because they actually sell one that opens to 52"...i would go with the wider extensions for strength tho...
