You would need to buy an extra 4in extension to go with the ones that come in the box. The gate plus the 2 included extensions fit EXACTLY 44inches. You may be able to adjust it to fit 45inches max, but I highly doubt that.

It only fits up to 44 inches with the included extensions, you can purchase additional extensions, the come in the 6, 12 and 24 inch sizes, but you may also try to look for a gate that can fit a 48 inch opening, Carlson makes several gates.

Question

Can a dog climb over this gate?

Our Beagle can climb a 32" gate because it has wire going up and down and across. I was wondering if it is harder for a dog to climb up if the metal bars just go up and down.

A smaller dog can't. A large dog might be able to jump over it. If you have hard wood floors, they usually can't find the footing to get a good jump. To slippery. If you have carpets, they might be able to get their footing enough to get a running start but most dogs inless they are REALLY food driven would not bother. If you have a large dog that you are worried about jumping over it, you can also instal it several inches off the floor to give it the extra hight you need to keep him/her from jumping it. Hope this helps.

There are horizontal bars to frame the cat door. The top one is about 12-15 inches off the floor. Not sure if that helps.

I have two cocker spaniels, around 25 pounds. One that can jump pretty high. Neither have been able to climb over or jump over. I have a small yorkie/maltese mix, which is also a jumper and climber, and he has not been able to get over the gate either. My yorkie / maltese mix weights about 10 pounds and he can climb a baby gate but this having the bars up and down and nothing for him to really get a foot hold keeps him from being able to climb up the gate.

The only crossbar this gate has is for the pet pass-through. If your beagle is agile, it may be possible - but Difficult -for it to climb. The vertical bars make this gate very difficult to climb!

A qualified maybe. There is a horizontal part -- the small cat door -- that your dog could possibly use to climb, but it is low down on the gate. Everything else is vertical.

The Beagle we are fostering weighs 41 pounds, so it isn't easy for him to climb. He hasn't offered to try, but I would think the bars would make it a lot more difficult. Good luck.

The gate is mounted on either side by screwing cups into either wall and then extending the 'feet' into the cups. The locking mechanism is pretty secure. Having said that, that's a powerful dog and may be able to force it. You should probably use sheet rock anchors, just in case.

Have 1 secured in drywall doorway, other in woodwork doorway. My dog's much smaller than yours, so I went over & pushed hard myself & tried to move gate -- it didn't move & I weigh A LOT more than your pup! Honesty Alert: had to snug up one of the corners after my 1st push but no movement after that. Hope this helps.

answer 11
It's pressure mounted, and is secured to a wood frame by pressure. It comes with wall cups to make it more secure. I would think using the wall cups and a tight pressure, might be much better than other pressure gates you might have used.

There are other brand of baby gates, there is one by evenflo that is made for the top of the stairs. I would assume any type of gate that is made for the top of the stairs would be the best in holding back the weight of the dog.

The only problem I forsee is that the tighter the pressure, the more the door comes together, that's how it's made, it's not a defect. However, you might need tremendous pressure for a Rottie. And it would make it so you would not be able to open the door to walk through.

Also, there is no way a rottie would fit through the small pet door. My dog is 25lbs and he fits through perfectly. It is a bit of snug fit, but it works for small to medium size dogs.

With both extensions attached, the gate just fit our 41" hallway. The knobs that brace the gate against the wall in the top and bottom corners, that may be the 44" measurement.

You would need to use the enclosed extensions to make the gate wider than a standard doorway. I have a standard doorway between my kitchen and living room, so I did not have to use the extensions.
