Question

Is the 44 inch width the gate itself, or does that include one or both of the included 4 and 6 inch extensions?

It's not clear to me if the one piece gate extends from 29 to 44 inches, or if you need to use the included extensions to get a maximum of 44 inches.

I don't think so. You can either use the pressure mount system or you can actually mount the gate to the wall with screws. It's a pretty sturdy metal gate. They also have one that is "extra tall" if you're worried about your dog jumping over. Although the regular gate is pretty tall already.

This gate comes with pieces that allow you to screw it into the wall for absolute security. I have an australian shepherd and when she stands next to the gate, the top of her head is about 3/4 of the way up the gate, so depending on how high your pit bull could jump, she might be able to jump over it.

I am not certain, as I don't know how high your dog can jump. I have seen dogs do some amazing things, like almost clear a 6' fence, so I don't know. If you brace the gate properly as instructed, she won't knock it down. Maybe kennel her...

The gate comes with cups that can be attached with screws (the screws come with the gate). If you use the screws to attach the cups to the wall, and then fit the gate into those cups, I doubt that your dog could push it down.

If you don't do that, and he pushes long enough and hard enough, I think it could be pushed over. My border collie has not done that so far, but if he does, I'll attach the cups to the door opening - then he won't be able to budge it.

I doubt that your dog could jump it. It's pretty tall and you can put the bottom bar several inches above the floor to make the gate even taller. I put mine down on the floor, as I don't think my dog will try to jump it - I think it's tall enough for him to think twice about trying.

The gates tension rods work for our Collie/Aussie pup thus far. However, the gate does come with mounting brackets that you can screw into the wall to help stabilize the gate. The brackets are mounted, and the tension screws are placed within the mounts so they cannot move about.

If you dont use the additional wall supports that come thru it then yes I do believe she will be able to knock it down if she hits it hard enough. But even without the supports it is very sturdy I have 230lb man in my house hit it and it didnt come down

answer 10
Yes, she will be able to knock it down IF she discovers she can. You cannot turn the screws too tightly at top otherwise you cannot open or close it. However, it's highly unlikely she can jump over it, unless she's spring loaded. Even then I believe she would hurt herself if she did.

A smaller dog can't. A large dog might be able to jump over it. If you have hard wood floors, they usually can't find the footing to get a good jump. To slippery. If you have carpets, they might be able to get their footing enough to get a running start but most dogs inless they are REALLY food driven would not bother. If you have a large dog that you are worried about jumping over it, you can also instal it several inches off the floor to give it the extra hight you need to keep him/her from jumping it. Hope this helps.

answer 2
There are horizontal bars to frame the cat door. The top one is about 12-15 inches off the floor. Not sure if that helps.

I have two cocker spaniels, around 25 pounds. One that can jump pretty high. Neither have been able to climb over or jump over. I have a small yorkie/maltese mix, which is also a jumper and climber, and he has not been able to get over the gate either. My yorkie / maltese mix weights about 10 pounds and he can climb a baby gate but this having the bars up and down and nothing for him to really get a foot hold keeps him from being able to climb up the gate.

The only crossbar this gate has is for the pet pass-through. If your beagle is agile, it may be possible - but Difficult -for it to climb. The vertical bars make this gate very difficult to climb!

A qualified maybe. There is a horizontal part -- the small cat door -- that your dog could possibly use to climb, but it is low down on the gate. Everything else is vertical.

I have a beagle and he is an escape artist. He has not attempted to get over this gate. I don't think he would be able to if he tried.

answer 8
I would think this is too tall for your dog to jump over.

Well, it kind of depends. He couldn't climb the gate, but if you are planning on keeping the small door open, he will definately fit through that.

I think this would work for you b/c the only foothold would be the top of the built-in "cat door" (13" from floor)

The Beagle we are fostering weighs 41 pounds, so it isn't easy for him to climb. He hasn't offered to try, but I would think the bars would make it a lot more difficult. Good luck.
