Questions & Answers for Vicks Vicks Germ-Free Warm Mist Humidifier V790

Question

How do you fill it?

Does it fill from the top so you have only to pour water in it? Or is it one of those where you have to take the tank out, turn it upside down, fill it, turn it right side up, and then place back in the unit?

I am looking for a unit that is easy to fill because I am handicapped.

It is the same as you described about pulling the tank. The fill port is on the bottom and you have to lift the tanks to refil them.

answer 2
The tanks have to be taken off and filled in the sink via a screw open port on the bottom. They have nice big handles though and the screw ports open very easily.

Both water tanks are like you said ,you pick it up, turn upside down ,carry to water source, fill it out and flip back in place. The humidifier itself is quite large and you do the water filling part twice. I think you could find an easier one for your needs:)

You remove each of the blue sides, which are the tanks. They have large handles on the outsides of them, flip them over and fill them. To replace them, you simply flip them back over and lower them back down onto the unit.

The tanks must be removed to fill. There are two separate tanks and each one will stand in the kitchen sink to fill.

You have to lift off the tank and turn it upside down to fill it. The tanks are heavy. If you fill both tanks they will last you 24 hours.

This DOES come with filters, and you can use the filters (and have to buy more as they do need to be replaced). It also says that as long as you use distilled water, they are not really necessary. If you use the filters and use hard water, they will need to be replaced often.

answer 2
The filters that you are talking about is the absorbant pads for hard water conditions.

If you have hard water, the heat from boiling will cause the calcium to create deposits that will harden like cement on the heating element area.

The little pads fit into the water well of the heating element and they are designed to have the calcium to collect on the little pad, instead of the equipment. If you don't want to replace pads often, when they become crusty from the hard water, just soak the pad in vinegar for a day and it will disolve the calcium and then renew the pad to use again.

If you don't have hard water, then you really won't need them, but they are available if you have small deposits on your unit.

Either way, if you have any kind of calcium build up from the water and it's hard to get off, just fill the water wells with vinegar for a while and then you can just wipe and rinse the deposits out.

Again, the filters are only if you have hard water, but the unit is not using filters for anything else.

It does have a small filter that you put in the boiling compartment but it comes with 2 of them. It's supposed to catch minerals from your water and the booklet says that you'll have to change it more frequently depending on how hard your water is.

It comes with 2 mineral filters that sits in center of unit. I didn't even know one was already in the unit until I cleaned it for the first time. I took it out and you don't have to use them. I don't use them & unit works great. Just pour white vinegar in the center & let it sit for 15-20 minutes to clean unit then rinse a few times with water to get all vinegar out. I've had many humidifiers and this is the easiest one I have ever had to clean. Heard if you want to use the pads they are around $8. Even if you use pads you still have to clean the unit. I used a filtered water for my water that might keep it cleaner than with tap water but I am not sure I would have to.

You don't need filters ,however there are small water pads that need to be changed depending on your water quality. Also the UV bulbs may need a replacement eventually.

You do hear it boiling and bubbling. It's not bad though. I actually find the sound "soothing", as if listening to water bubbling and rolling in a small creek.

It may or may not bother you while sleeping. It's never affected my sleep when running and I hear everything when I'm asleep.

It depends what your version of noisy is... It sounds like boiling water when its turned up which can seem loud when you're in complete quiet, but there is no annoying fan or anything like that.

the opening is very small, you have to let it air dry. I ended up only drying it out once a month to clean it, and at the end of winter when I was storing it. I would think it is unwise to try to stick a cloth in there to dry it (I'm very impatient and wanted to do this too).

Unit clean with white vinegar & rinse with water. Says to clean water jugs with a little bleach but I just put a little vinegar and let it sit for a few minutes and rinse with water. I don't see that the jugs even get dirty or scummy. Easiest humidifier to clean that I have ever bought. Unit doesn't get very dirty. I clean every few days.

It is not easy to clean inside. It is full of cracks and spots that are not easily cleaned. If you run the humidifier for long periods of time it will need to be cleaned quite often. Good luck finding replacement filters!

Yes, when the water runs out, it will stop heating and show a yellow light that it is out.

When you go to reset it and refill it, turn the power off, let it sit for a little while and then once filled, turn it back on and it will start all over again.

Yes, it is very effective in a large room. You may find that you won't use it on a high level all the time to get the results you are looking for. In fact, you will use a lower level, as it works very well.

I use this product downstairs in my livingroom, which is approximately 16 ft. x 10 ft. The humidifier works just fine for me there, but always seems to be running. I've noticed it seems to make upstairs (as I live in a 2 story home) humid as well. So I'd say it will probably do fine in a large room.

no, its comes out as steam, but in the end takes the room down a few degrees as moisture tends to do that in cold environments. As I used this in winter, we also had a heater going and this kept the room at a good temperature.

You will have this with steam humidifiers. If you have the condensation at the top and can feel the heat, then your unit is working fine.

It won't throw water droplets out into the air, as you see with a cool mist unit. This puts steam out and again, some days you might see the mist, but most, it will disperse when it gets to the air.

You will notice the over all feel of the air in your house, once they have run for a few days or longer. Your house is also asorbing the moisture as well, for it has been dry inside, so that too will make a difference in getting started.

To really see and know how they are working, get a humidity gauge for the central part of your house. I got one for around $12 and it not only gives the humidity percentages, but also registers the temp and records the highs and lows so you can adjust your unit for the right levels.
