I could not find the salt at WM so I went to Lowes and purchased the salt pellets 99.8% pure. It disolved quite fast and is doing the job just fine.

We found Pool Salt at our local home improvement store since our local Wal-Mart was sold out. They now have it again, but try your local Wal-Mart and if no luck, then the local home improvement store.

People, keep in mind one of the reasons these pools can be offered so inexpensively, is because the filters are not very sophisticated . Do yourself a favor and buy the salination pump offered by Walmart/Intek and replace the one that came with your pool. They are great and will filter the water in these sizes of pools wonderfully. Best of all no chemicals!!

The B filter is to small in my opinion. We live in a rural area and are cleaning our filter twice a week. In fact, I came on here looking for an answer about the addition of a sand filter, to help with problems.

NOTE, I emailed the Intex office three days ago about using it with this filter, pump system and still no reply from them.

NO!!!! And mine broke as soon as I tried to put it together!! But you can order a platform from the Intex store on line. I ordered one, haven't got it yet. I'll let you know how sturdy it is afterwards, as for now you gotta try not to shake to much when your climbing it!!

It has a very small platform that I always step around. It's a little wobbly. It's not great but it does the job (for now).

No, none of the Intex pools are as easy as they state on the box. The reason is because you need to have PERFECTLY level ground to put the pool on. But after you have perfectly level ground, the setup of the pools is pretty close to what they claim on the box, as long as you are fairly experienced in putting things together.

we have also used the bulk salt- just added to pool during the heat of the day so that it would dissolve quicker. I was able to find table salt in 25 lb bags at our local grocery store.

You can use the water softener pellets that come in the yellow sack. Salt pellets need to be 98% pure, which softener pellets are.

Nope, it does not taste like the water in the ocean, which is realy salty. It is just a tiny bit salty, which is better than swallowing chemicals :-)

No. If you taste salt water then you have too much salt in the water.

Question

Do you have to add the salt right away?

I have a very impatient 5-year-old who wants to swim in it right away. Since you can't run the pump when in use and it has to run 24 hours before even turning on the saltwater pump, is it okay to delay adding the salt by a day. It is Saturday night and we're still filling it with water, but I had told her we would swim tomorrow not realizing exactly how it all worked. Thanks for any advice.

You can if you want...but be prepared for VERY COLD water unless you heated it first. My advice is to set it up before anyone gets in it. This will ensure that the pump is working properly and that the salt is dissolved thouroughly so that the chlorinator will do its job at start up. This process will take at least 24 hours...and plan on 48 hours if you have not added the correct amount of salt. Also, last note. if you can buy NON-pelletized salt the process of disolving the the salt will be much faster and easier on you.

Good luck!

My girls swam while the pool was filling! We finished filling it this morning, I added salt, and they are in it again. I figure the pump will run most of the time, but when I get ready to turn on the saltwater system after 24 hours, then they will have to get out for those five hours. If I set it to begin around 10:00 at night, then it should run about that same time every night. Good Luck!

Question

How does the Salt Water Filter System work?

We are looking to purchase this pool and don't quite understand how the Salt Water Filtering system works. Is the water salt water after it is filtered? Or does the system use salt in place of chlorine?

The system works like this. It takes the salt that is in the water, and using (safely) electic cells in the pump causing the water to naturaly clorinate. It does not smell or taste like clorine, it is just a natural process. I worked for a plant here and they use the same process. I guess the only reason I really understood the process was because I worked at a plant in which we clorinated the water in the same manner. It has a timer in which you set it to clorinate (2-6 hrs depending on the climate where you live). That's it! Oh you will have to change the filer now and then, but not as much as you would with a pool that you put the chemicals in.

It is a saltwater chlorinator. The system turns the salt into a type of chlorine. I dont know all the details but i understand that much. Our pool has been up for about 3 weeks and the tester strips show everything is normal. I love it, so easy to maintain!
