yes you can make it work. It wont be exactly like an adult bike in the standard position. The span between the cradle arms is 15". They have tie-downs so if you put the bike lopsided it can be secured.

The rack is 16 inches wide. Measure the bike frame to see if it will fit.

It will support a 20" boys or girls bike frames with an adaptor bar (click on this link to view bar & price: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Allen-Bicycle-Adaptor-Bar/10812004). The bar can also be used to mount a womens adult bike that does not have a straight top tube.

It should be fine. My wife uses it on her Toyota matrix. The bikes are suspended away from the car but you should also use a bungy cable around the front wheel to keep them from rotating and rubbing the bumper.

YOU WOULD PROBABLY NEED AN EXTENSION ADAPTER - I BOUGHT ONE FOR ANOTHER TYPE OF RACK AND I THINK IT WAS ABOUT $25. IT WAS ABOUT A FOOT LONG.

Recommend you purchase a bike carrier meant to be attached to your spare tire.

You may need a hitch extension to clear the spare tire, but should work. The fold down feature is nice for a vehicle like yours.

answer 5
Don't know if it would clear the spare tire, I would recommend a spare tire mounted bike carrier.

It's about 9 inches from the pin hole to the inside bend on the rack. That was enough clearance for the spare on my RV.

I normally carry only 1 bike on a Chevy HHR. My trick is to bungee-chord the wheels and pedals from movement. The bike would have to come unattached to scratch the car (hasn't happened yet). The rack extends rearward from the receiver approximately 6 inches.

answer 2
Yes if you have a hitch receiver. O your car it would be 1 1/4. the only thing that will scratch the car is pedals. You can remove the one nearest the car during transport.

Bigfoot48065
answer 3
If there is a supported sized hitch (1-1/4 or 2") you should be fine.

There is about 4" between the rack and the tailgate on my truck. The handlebars of my bike do not hit the tailgate.

answer 4
If you have a 1 1/4" receiver it will fit and the bikes won't touch the car. I run a bungee cord from the front to back tire on the bike closest to the car which keeps the front wheel straight.

answer 5
Yes it will mount, and if you do not secure the bikes with an extra cord, they can scratch the car, however if properly tied down, this is an excellent choice.

answer 6
Should not be a problem at all. Except for the hitch, nothing touches your car and bike does not move enough to swing back to hit your car.

Question

Has anyone used this rack with a Class I 1 1/4" hitch with 200 lbs tongue weight?

Bought the rack, saw in instructions that for the 1 1/4" hitch they want a Class II, but the combined weight with 3 bikes and the rack is less than the Class I 200 lbs rating.

It should with no problem. The only thing thast might interfere with it is a rear-mounted spare tire. However, the hitch seems to have an adequate amount of clearance between it, and the rear of my vehicle.

yes it should. you may have to get creative when attaching to the carrier. i have 2 beach cruisers and one has the girly frame that swoops down, but the mounts are positionable so if i can get my cruiser on, you should be ok with your tandem

answer 4
You'll first need to find your tandem's balance point. Then hang the tandem onto the rack with the balance point centered between the rack's arms. If either the downbars or horizontal bars of the tandem fall into the pockets on the arms, then you're good to go, because the rack will carry up to 120#. Be sure to strap the tandem to the vertical bar securely using bungee cords in addition to the rack's straps.
