answer 1
instead of a shield, you have "stamina," which acts sort-of like a shield. being shot lowers your stamina like a shield, and the screen gets fuzzier. it recharges after a time, like the shield. After your stamina is gone, your health is damaged. to regain health get a health pack, found around the levels

In the game, yeah you can't take the amount of punishment of a MJOLNIR Mark 6 clad SPARTAN-II. But, if you played Halo 1 then you know the health system. You got Stamina and Health, Stamina is shields in this game. As you take damage you will leave blood on the ground but that doesn't mean what you took is permanent. As you lose Stamina your screen edges in your hud get redder and redder and your vision will blur around the edges and your character's breathing will be labored and they will emit pained grunts and groans. If you continue to take damage then you will begin to lose health which is a large bar at the top of the screen. You will recover stamina when you avoid damage for a few seconds. There are health kiosks scattered all over the city and they each contain 2 health kits that will fix you up. You also get an achievement for patching yourself up for the first time.
