We were wanting to get away with just buying the matress however, only but, without the Box Spring the bed is very close to the floor. If you don't mind a very low bed then it should be ok. Otherwise, your going to need a box spring to bring it up from being so close to the floor. I purchased the matress from Wal-Mart.....it is a very comfortable and nice matress!! It is the - Slumber 1 - 9'' iCoil Mattress-In-a-Box. I just wish Wal-Mart sold Box Springs because I would buy that from them too!!

The end slats should be placed approximately 10" to 11" from the headboard and footboard.

The foot board cannot hold up alone without the head board and vise versa.

The rails fit into a slat that can't be adjust. I would recommend a box spring or a piece of wood that lays over the slats to offer support.
