if you HAVE a wireless card in your computer, you do not. if not you will need one if you wish to go wireless. BUT there are 4 10/100 ethernet ports in the back to wire directly.

If you have a newer laptop that has a wireless adapter built in, then you will not need one. Without knowing your current configuration, I would have no idea.

I suppose that this depends on if your computer supports WiFi? If you have WiFi installed in your computer, then you will not need an adapter. If, however, you do not have a computer that is able to connect to a WiFi network, then...yes, you need an adapter.

Yes, I use mine to stream Netflix over my Wii. It works perfect, only time I have a problem is when Netflix is having issues. I have used this router and had multiple movies streaming from Netflix at the same time on different devices (laptops, and wii).

answer 3
Yes. I have Charter and have had this router for maybe 2 years. I pay for their high speed that is 30mbps. However! I'm having issues with streaming, especially from Amazon (movies, tv shows) they were low quality and sometimes froze. So I called Charter, and the gentleman came out checking all my incoming lines and so on, and then we looked at this router. We pulled out the box which I still had, and sure enough, "streaming video" is not checked on this model. It's not fast enough so the quality is not up to par. I'm on here now looking to upgrade....

Yes it will but only if thats the ONLY thing you wish to use at the time. if you plan to use ANYTHING else at the same time, i highly suggest you pick up the cisco e2500 router for 30 more, its worth it

answer 3
Yes. Just make sure that (if you set up a password) you do not have spaces in the password. The PS3 will not recognize some characters and spaces and will not accept the password if it is too long. I have no idea why that is, but mine had difficulty connecting when I had a space in the router password. The router will also work with Xbox 360, Wii and the PSP...and just about anything else with WiFi.

It means that you have to have some sort of wireless device that supports those formats to use the wireless connectivity of the router. Otherwise, you need to use the Ethernet ports on the back to create a wired connection.
answered 1 year, 10 months ago
By
Seredetia
answer 2
By that, it's talking about the WPS feature. What WPS does is if you have a compatible Wireless adapter (Most devices do), you can connect to the network, and before putting in the password it will display a prompt asking if you want to use WPS. If you hit yes, then you hit the button on the front of the router near the bottom and it allows you to connect without the password. This feature only functions when a computer is waiting to connect and you hit the button, and turns off automatically once you connect. This feature makes it easy if you forget your password or have a really long password that you don't want to put in.

I have a 2000sqft home and access is full inside and on the porch i still have all bars.. however, when i go to my shed about 20ft from my back door ( my router is in the front corner) the bars go down to 1 or 2 so it may be possible in a duplex( side by side situation, but maybe not upstairs downstairs or front and back set up

answer 3
As long as you have the router in a close proximity to a community wall or space, you should have no problem. This unit and most newer units have excellent range. You may want to look at a unit that has the capability for an external antenna if you have block wall construction or many walls, since the signal degrades the farther you get away. My nieghbor across the street from me can see my network, so I think this unit would work fine, and I have block construction.

I have the router placed upstairs in my 2200 square foot home and it does not reach beyond the back/front yard. In fact, I get 2 (out of 5) bars sitting in the back yard...it would not reach the neighbors. Go for another model.

answer 5
The range depends on how many walls the signal has to go through. I have my router downstairs, and it goes through 2 walls and the ceiling to connect to my XBox 360. It connects perfectly fine. In order for it to work the best, you would need to put the router as close to the wall between you and your stepdaughter as possible. If she lives in a house next to you, that might pose a problem. My neighbor uses my WiFi sometimes, but the signal is so low that it takes a while to load up pages and get on the internet. He lives about 35 feet from my house. If she lives in an appartment next to you, there should be no problem. It all depends on what obstructions are in the way between your router and your stepdaughter's computer.

255 wireless, 4 LAN. However, more than 10 to 12 WiFi - wont recommend. This is not a business class unit. However, if you flash this with DD-WRN you'll get better client list.

Short answer:
254 devices combined from 4 wired (expandable with a switch) and 250 wireless (or any combination between the two).

Longer answer:
It depends how it is configured. In stock configuration (assuming a live IP address from you ISP) it would be on the 192.168.0.0 subnet which allows for 254 devices ("borrowed" from the 255.255.255.0 subnet mask). There are way too many variables to describe every scenario. There are entire libraries of books dedicated to networking.

Note: Walmart wouldn't let me use x's in 192.168.x.x because they said it was inappropriate language although that would be the correct way to specify the octets in the subnet.
