Hey Peg, my daughter is 4 and she has her own DS. She loves it. There are lots of games for the younger ones. Pets games such as Dogs are good for the little ones. I also have 2 boys so it helps that my little one has 2 older brothers to look up to as far as the video games. She likes being like them. Disney has some good games too. If you're not sure then a totally different option is the Leapster. My daughter has this as well & she likes it. She switches back & forth depending on her mood. Most surprising...all 3 of my kids...10 yrs, 7 yrs & my 4 year old share (sometimes swipe) both the DS games AND the Leapster so they both can entertain various age levels. So once he gets the hang of it you'll be in business...& you MIGHT just get a quiet dinner out once in a while if your son has something to entertain himself with when he's done eating! Good luck!

Yes, almost any DS game will work on any version of the DS (DS, DS Lite, DSi, etc.) The only exceptions for the DSi are the games that require the GBA slot such as Guitar Hero On Tour and Band Hero.
