This is a double stroller for 2 kids to sit. The desciption for "one" is a typo.

Yes, there's a latch that will hold it together in the folded position.

I think so, I'm pretty sure it couldn't go up the escalators... not that you're supposed to do that anyway... and it would get cumbersome in a crowd.
