Yes. The charger is meant for the battery alone, so the battery needs to be removed from the camera and charged separately and reinserted into the camera once fully charged.

Battery is a flat unit (not a AA or AAA) that snaps into the included charger which plugs into wall outlet. I **think** it will also charge when plugged in to USB.

At first, how to plug the battery into charger wasn't obvious, but we figured it out.
