Questions & Answers for Singer Singer Simple 23-Stitch Sewing Machine 2263

Question

I'm told I need a free-motion foot to make a quilt

I do not know what a free motion foot is or whether the machine already has one. I have been using this machine for a few months now and love it but would like to try a quilt.

Whatever foot you get is NOT going to stay attached. This machine has a serious design flaw in that the pressure foot pops off.

Hi Knitalife: Katie B. here with SINGER. A darning & embroidery foot will do what you need to make a quilt. You'll want to use the darning plate that comes with this machine in order to do free motion sewing for quilting. The darning & embroidery foot is an optional accessory that can be purchased separately elsewhere.

Denim

Does this sewing machine sew denim?

So far, my experience on it indicates that it will be fine on a double layer of denim provided you use a size 14 or larger sewing machine needle. I can't say if it would work on a thicker layer of denim (say the typical 4 layer seam on jeans).

answer 2
It can if you do no more than two layers and use an appropriate gauge needle for the task, you will have to buy one because it only comes with a standard needle. They are cheap though and found anywhere with sewing supplies. I would not recommend frequently using this machine for heavy denims.

I suppose it could with the elastic thread.

answer 2
Yes, it does. Hand-wind elastic thread around the bobbin, it shouldn't be loose but you shouldn't pull any tension either. Put the bobbin in the machine like normal but leave a longer "tail" like 6+ inches. Hold onto the top thread and turn the wheel towards you until you see the thread catch the elastic thread and pull gently on the top thread and the elastic thread will come right up. I leave the tension and the stitch length the same as always and it works great! Good luck! It takes some trial and error.

why has my automatic needle threader quit threading

to make the auto threader work properly you must always have the needle exactly in the right position or it will not thread. It is very tricky, but make sure the wheel on the right is perfectly lined up in the same position as when you are threading the machine

I was having the same problem.
*first make sure that the little line on the big side knob is lined up with the mark on the machine. Then make sure the clear plastic thingy next to the sewing machine's needle is switched down. Now push the clear platstic thingy all the way down (gently) and then it should work fine.I tried doing it slow but it seems to thread the first time when i do a quick press on it.Its tricky at first but just make sure the side knob is lined up, thats whats most important

Yes absolutely. I've even made lace curtains with it, with careful stitching. It's a good little machine if you pay close attention to how to use it. The threading throws many people off because there are two tensors on top, one for bobbin winding and one for sewing, which is kind of hidden under the plastic rectangle the bobbin tensor sits on. Hope this helps!

Question

Could I use my bobbins and needles from my old Kenmore sewingmachine with this sewing machine?

Hello! This is Katie B. from SINGER Sewing Company.

The SINGER 2263 SIMPLE sewing machine takes class 15 bobbins. I'm unsure what class you Kenmore used. The problem with using inappropriate bobbins is that it could mess up the timing on the machine. Therefore, SINGER recommends using only Class 15 bobbins.

Your needles should work (with a few exceptions).

Happy Sewing!

You should definitely be able to use your same needles. I'm not sure about the bobbin, although I would think so. It has a metal bobbin casing and uses a plastic bobbin.
