Questions & Answers for Philips Philips Indoor/Outdoor UHF Digital/Analog TV Antenna

Question
Do I still need a Digital Converter Box?
If I purchase this, do I still need the Digital Converter box for my t.v., which does not have a built in converter, or will I need to buy both?

Yes, you will still need a digital converter (tuner) box for your TV, if it's older and doesn't have a digital tuner. You will need to mount your antenna, connect it to the digital tuner box, and then connect the digital tuner to your television set.

By the way, keep in mind that there is no such thing as a "digital" antenna; all antennas will receive both digital and analog signals. I only mention this because many manufacturers like to market their new antennas as "digital-TV ready." (Guess what? Grandma's old rabbit-ears are digital-ready, too!)

I own the same antenna and wasn't sure either. I checked on philips.com website and found ther FAQ. Apparantly it is omni-directional and you do not need to point it.

Well, this isn't a converter - it's just an antenna. You're talking about two different things, I'm afraid. This product will work fine as an antenna, and your new HDTV has a built-in digital tuner...so no converter is necessary. You'll be ready to go, once you get an antenna like this one and connect it to your HDTV (assuming you're not too far from a city or broadcast tower).

Question
Is the Philips SDV2940/27 antenna multi-directional? I'm in between two cities (one directly north and one directly south) will this antenna pick up
signals from both directions at once. If not is it possible to have two units running thru a coax reversed splitter to one TV?

I tried this product indoors and out with a variety of positions, with and without the 'booster' and it only brought in two channels at best and only one from a distance.

You don't HAVE to, you could sit it on a table, or somehow tie it up on the wall near the ceiling. Or even attach it with velcro strips on the wall. I installed mine on the wall near the ceiling and made holes, but if you don't want the holes it still would work OK as long as you can put it in a pretty good position to pick up the signals. even sitting on the floor this one worked better than the others I tried before it.

Several people in these reviews have posted that it works extremely well in their attic most likely because it is above objects that would impede the local signal. Though your situation depends on where the signal is coming from and what's between you and the signal. And as with anything it is always better to mount it higher to get a clearer signal. Which is why most satellite dishes are put on the roof. But you'll have to test this for yourself to know for sure.

No this not a smart antenna.I just went and picked one up it works a little better then Rabbit Ears but not much.I had to mount it on the peak of my roof and had to add extra cable. You can not turn a knob and adjust it you are just stuck. But it is better then nothing but if you live close to the repeaters it would work great.
