No. You can buy optional services like gas prices and such, but the thing works fine with no monthly fee.

you can save destinations.
you can plan & save itineries( multiple stop routes).
I don't think you can memorize a route that you drive. It basically always needs to route itself to the next destination.

Does the TomTom140 come with a charger for the car?
It says the battery lasts for 3 hours. If we are taking a trip we would be in the car for more then 3 hours so how would we charge it if there isn't one?

the 140S came with a car charger.
and a USB cable for connecting to a computer, however I don't think it will charge from USB.

Supposedly it's preloaded w/ US & Canadian maps but I would call TomTom just in case. Their customer service is pretty helpful.

Probably not because your windshield might be curved too much for the suction cup to work.

This is a wonderful GPS yet there is ONE major problem we have had since we bought it. It will NOT stay on the windshield. What can we do?
We bought this to navigate us on a long trip. What a disappointment when it fell down within 15 min. When we got to our destination, we had my brother try to attach it, becaus he recommended this TomTom. He said he has never had a problem with his and it must be defective. He had no luck either. Please advise what we should do. Thank you

I recommend rubbing a drop of water on the suction cup before applying it to the windshield. I have had this problem too numerous times but if I do this trick, it never happens.

3.5 screen and battery powered. I wouldn't make it a permanent on a lot of hiking trips, but it would do.
