No, it appears to be the "paper-like" veneer. Not like the more substantial stuff you might see with furniture from a furniture store. The "wood" under the veneer is what I would characterize as "fine wood chips glued together under very high pressure" - not actual "wood" as you see in fine furniture; but this "glued wood" seems much heavier than actual "wood". This was actually a concern of ours in buying it, but when we simply could not find anything else close to what we wanted for the $200 we paid for this, we decided to take a chance. We were pleasantly surprised. Just be very careful in putting it together. It comes well packed in great shape, so it's not dinged when you begin to work with it. If you have kids, big dogs, etc., however, I think you're going to see some dings in the finish over time. Hope this helps.

Yes, but the ends of the TV will extend over the sides of the stand. I have a 46 inch and it fits, with about 5 inches to spare.

Question
Is the drawer deep enough to hold DVDs?

answer 1
It may be deep enough, but not sturdy enough to hold a large amount of dvds/cd's. It may be possible to put a more sturdy bottom in it though. I may check into that myself. The piece just slides in, so it should be easy enough.

It wasn't difficult, but it is time consuming. The directions are clear and the parts are well identified. I do agree there is an instance where it tells you to use the wrong screws. I found this out when I was short 3 screws at the end. Other than that it was ok. I put it together by myself and I am a 35 year old Mom.

My husband put this together and according to him it was easy. The instructions were only wrong maybe twice...for instance told you to use screw yy but really it was xx. Not too hard to see they made a mistake. It took about 3 hours. The knob broke but i immediatley ordered off the internet and it was easy.

After you put the back on it should be very sturdy. Use a nail in each indent in the back for proper sturdiness.

To remove the drawer use a small object to push in the black plastic part where it says release on each side, and pull the drawer out at the same time (easily).

Question
Has anyone replaced the drawer bottom with plywood?
I purchased this unit yesterday and began assembling it last night. Assembly went smoothly, but after reviewing the feedback, I'm hesitant to assemble the drawer "as is". I inspected the mdf that goes into the drawer bottom and I can see how it could either use some support (perhaps some thin fir strips) or a piece of 1/4 inch plywood to replace the bottom altogether. Has anyone done this? If so, please post how it went and any tips you may have. Also, I just want to add that I am very happy with this item so far, I'm just exercising preventative maintenance where the drawer is concerned! If I decide to replace and/or reinforce the drawer I will let you know how it goes.
Thanks!!!
