is there any way of bracing the shelves so that they can hold more weight?
i have one of these book shelves already and the shelves start to bow and give within a couple of weeks, with just a few books on them. i am wondering if i can use them for magazines? maybe some kinda simple brace under the shelves?

I had shelves that were sagging from weight. I cut some wood strips to length, even a sturdy dowel would work, and set them upright on each shelf right in the middle. I lined the supports right up the center of each of the shelves so they sort of support each other and all the weight. It works fine for me.

Yes, get some metal "L" brackets at a DY store and put under each shelf

I'm sure that would fix the problem. I have a different shelf that I also bought at Walmart that included an L shaped accessorie that would help it withhold more weight. I'm sure you can find that part at any home improvement store or even Walmart.
