Can I paint the wood? I assembled part of it backwards!!!
On the top portion of the bookshelf, I accidentally assembled the top side pieces backward so now the raw side shows! Is there some type of alder paint, or wood pattern paper strip I can use to cover it up?????

Duct tape works well. They have fun patterns now.

Wood grain painting is a bit tricky. Contact paper of a like color would do if applied with finesse and patience. You could also paint it a pleasing brown with some acrylic paint, spray it with some sealer (clear) and hang a picture or poster of your liking on each
side. If you are artistic you could paint your own 'save' picture on each side. But if you get too crazy, put it in the garage or a closet and get another one! Good luck!

I had a shelf like this before and tried to paint it, it wasnt good. the best thing to do is buy some contact paper that matches but you'll have to also apply some extra adhesive like elmers glue, the adhesive on the contact paper wont stick well to the fiber board.
