The opening (frame) thru which you place objects into the cabinet is slightly smaller at 10-3/4" X 50". Once past that the cabinet is sized as advertised.

Question

Obviously, this isn't a safe, but is it sturdy?

Is it solid enough so it can't be broken into with someone's fist punching it?

I believe it is solid enough that no one can get into it without some serious tools. The hinge runs the full length of the door and the lock secures at the top, bottom and in the center of the door.
I did not attempt to use a "wonder-bar" on the door but the door lock uses double-slotted brackets and blocks to prevent the lock from deforming / bending under pressure.
As an extra precaution, all my weapons are stored with their own individual locks.

First of all this if a safe it locks just like all safes do. Second it's super sturdy. No your not going to be able to punch it and brake into it. How many people have you see brake the studs out of your wall with one punch or multiple punches?
answered 1 year, 4 months ago

answer 5
Picture a gym locker but only 4 inches deep.

Its latches in 3 locations. A barrage of punches will not get into the cabinet but will damage it.

If you want a safe, buy a safe. If you want a convenient cabinet, buy this thing. Its the only one like it out there.

Someone would make a mess of your wall of the safe with a crowbar if they tried to get into it. I wouldn't use it for any serious valuables, unless you also hid it well. It is a glorified school locker, but great for keeping the kids away from guns.

I have found that this cabinet goes in and out of stock very frequently. I couldn't sleep one night and noticed someone posted it was in stock and purchased one. Not even after a few hours it was out of stock. So keep your eye out.

That may actually be a blessing in disguise. After purchase, I have found better ways to hide my weapons - a "Google" search will answer that need rather quickly. One scoped long gun and perhaps at least one other can be stored in the main chamber. The shelf is not deep enough to store very much.

If you research this product for customer reviews, you will find many that mention the product arriving with at least some portion bent. That was my experience as well.

If your walls have standard 16-inch on-center stud spacing, you will need to use another wall opening to insert two. I had to provide a little shimming with 2x2's to get a snug fit.

Be sure that you have some way to conceal the cabinets once install - just hanging clothes in front of them may not prevent intruders from quickly spotting and opening them.

I true gun safe is prohibitively costly for me. I have found from internet searches better ways to conceal my weapons that also make them more accessible.

Yes you could. You would need to drill you own mounting holes so the screws from one would not hit the other's.

By

answer 3
I think it would be possible. The flange on the outside is 3/4", or half the width of a stud. Also, since the cabinet is 14" wide in the wall, it would be possible to center between the studs and shim both sides.

By

answer 4
The trim aroung the edge of the cabinet is almost 2" wide, so you would not be able to mount another one directly next to one already installed. You would have to skip over to the next stud.

I would skip to the next wall stud. Don't remember the exact width of the lip at the edge, but as I recall it was somewhere between 3/4" & 1 1/4".

The outer flange covers the entire stud on both sides so I dont think 2 side by side would fit well at all.

answer 7
You can place two side by side if you're careful with your measurements. The cabinets don't entirely fill the space between the 16" OC studs, so put your spacer boards on either side of the center stud and you should be good to go.
answered 9 months ago
By
LittleBrotherMD
answer 8
Conventional framing doesn't provide space for more than one unit between two studs. Besides for proper installation both sides of this unit should be screwed to those studs or to shims attached to those studs.

answer 10
You will need a stud's width between them.

answer 11
You can't place two side-by-side. You'll need to skip to the next stud.

The trim/bezel around the door that keeps the cabinet from falling into the wall is too wide to allow for side-by-side cabinets.

The trim from two units side-by-side would overlap and prevent the second cabinet from mounting flush to the wall.

Not to my knowledge, you'll probably have to pay a locksmith to install new locks that are keyed alike... but before you do that, try contacting the manufacturer, they may be able to offer a better and more cost effective solution through them and thus help you avoid outsourcing the task. Good luck and God Bless!
