Question

Is there a hole in the back panel to pass cords through?

I plan on using this shelf to hold a small 22" tv on the top shelf and a dvd player or blu ray player on the lower shelf so I wanted to know if there was a hole that I can pass cords through. Thank you.

It does not have a hole, but it would be really easy to cut one in--the back panel is nothing but thin paper/cardboard. :]

answer 3
No hole. The back panel is made of cardboard so it would be easy to make your own hole exactly where you want it. I would make the hole before attaching it onto the book case so you can do it on a table and have some stability and make the hole smooth and perfect. Might be hard to do if you do it when it is attached to the book shelf.

Question

Stable enough without a back panel?

I'd like to use this shelf as a half room divider. Since the back wouldn't be against a wall, I wanted to leave the backing off to have access from both sides. Is it stable enough to work without it? I didn't plan on loading it down with a lot of stuff, just little decorative items and a few books.

The back (without the finished backing) is unfinished, so in my opinion, it wouldn't look good exposed. But you could perhaps sand and paint it, and it might work. As far as stability, the backing is purely decorative so it should be fine.

Flimsy though it may be, the cardboard is what keeps the shelves square. Without it the shelves will cant/lean to the side. Most "assemble yourself" furniture is like this and it really does make a difference.

The backing is just a heavy cardboard. I believe as long as you screw everything in tightly, it will hold up without it. I don't think the backing adds any structural integrity.

Yes, because the back is a piece of cardboard, does not give any extra support to the bookshelf... BUT you will need to buy black painting to for the edges (are unfinished) and at the bottom, the back part would not have the decorative frame at the bottom.

answer 7
The Back panel is NOT going to make it more stable. It is only a thin piece of cardboard that you nail into it. It is not enough to keep it sturdy. I suggest you get a small bottle of wood glue to put in the joints and help make it more sturdy. With the explanation of how you plan on using it, it should be fine.

Particle board with a veneer over. It holds up pretty well - I had one for 4+ years that lasted through 3 apartments and a few rough college years... I just purchased a new one because my mum accidentaly stepped on it while hanging curtains and cracked the top.

We have about 5 lbs. sitting on top (picture frame, tiny lamp, jewelry box) and it holds it fine. Not sure about a small tv because it might be too heavy. It's only 12" deep so you can't put anything bulky on it too.

The shelves can fit a 8x11in piece of paper on it with about 3/4in of room left at the edge. Place your shoes on a piece of paper and if they go over the edges of the paper then you may be out of luck.

The shelves are 12" deep. You might be able to fit 3 pairs on each shelf unless you stack them on top of each other. Or better yet, keep the shoes in their original containers with the pictures on the boxes. Stack one on top of each other and you'll get probably almost 20 pairs on all 3 shelves. Just be sure NOT to put the "facing" on the top "lip".

The shelf is most likely deep enough to hold sneakers and other shoes. Obviously, if you have an overly large shoe size, they might not fit, but for the average shoe size, they should fit perfectly. (Probably up to size 11-13 mens.)

NO! I absolutely do not recommend that, for several reasons. 1) the shelf is not build to support weight that way. 2) the back is a thin piece of papery wood/carboard and is purely decorative, it will absolutely not support the weight of the shelf. 3) the bottom would look awful as it is exposed particle board under there.

No. The back is only decorative cardboard it isn't wood. So there is not a way to adhere it to the wall. Also the particle board it is made out of would not withstand the pressure of the anchors needed to suspend it.

It is possible only if you have a drill and puncture your own holes at mid level. For each of the 2 shelves you have 3 adjustable heights. So if you do opt to have a two shelf bookcase, one of the shelves will be slightly less than half in height.

Yes, the two adjustable shelves are the middle ones. The interior distance from the bottom shelve to the top shelve is 27". At 13 1/2" there are holes drilled for the support pegs and a shelve to be placed there. At this point you would have the bottom shelve, the middle shelve and the top shelve, all evenly spaced. I hope this helps.
