The booklet says the player needs a wireless LAN adapter (not included, of course) and is compatible with Samsung's wireless LAN adapter, only....model name WIS09ABGN.

You will need to get the Samsung WIS09ABGN LinkStick (79.00) to connect to your wireless router. If all you have available is a wireless connection I would look at the BD-P3600 or BD-P4600 both come WIFI ready.

No, not to utilize, but you'll have to pay for the company's streaming services if you decide to use them, which im sure you probably already knew about

Yes you do! I am not sure of the model number for the adaptor though. But this product must have a wifi adaptor via the usb port on the back of the player. If not you can use your ethernet cable. It will not receive the wireless routers signal without the adaptor.

Yes, apparently it does. I bought this on 11/27/09. After setting it up at home, the menu only showed Netflix and Pandora capabilities. I hooked the player up via an ethernet cable and, after about a minute, it recognized the connection and suggested a firmware update. After the update was done (15 minutes) Blockbuster and YouTube appeared on the menu, as options.

It's true that the normal wireless installation requires a "special" Samsung Wireless Adaptor (which they don't really highlight on the box) or an Ethernet Cable. You may want to try moving your Cable Modem and a Wireless Router to your TV location (which must already have a cable connection), connect to the Blu-Ray Player with an Ethernet Cable from your router to the player, and get a standard Wireless Adaptor for the computer (maybe your desktop) that was previously using an Ethernet Cable between it and your wireless router. I already had a standard Wireless Adaptor in the "junk drawer" and a wireless router. More than one way to skin a cat! Using this method makes this a better bargain than paying the extra cost of higher priced units with built-in wireless or buying a special adaptor.

You can connect the player to the Internet through a simple Ethernet cable, but if you want a wireless connection, you'd need to purchase a wireless LAN adapter from the Samsung website:

http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/tv-video/televisions/television-accessories/WIS09ABGNX/XAA/index.idx?pagetype=acc_detail&subsubtype=wireless-usb-adaptor

It will not connect wirelessly right out of the box. The wireless connection requires a wireless usb adaptor. A specific Samsung model usb adaptor. you can connect it by usb cable though

Yes. Just like a computer would require a wireless adapter if you wanted to connect it to your wireless router, this device requires one as well to connect wirelessly.

answer 3
Yes you do. You need to purchase a Samsung USB wireless adapter. You can find them on Amazon for about $72. Once you install it, then you can enter any encryption code you may have. It also helps if you want the netflix stream or blu-ray to have a netflix account before you install the adapter. The adapter plugs into the USB port in the back. Make sure you have extra cable so your wireless router can reach it. If it's hidden in a TV cabinet, it won't pick it up.

Question

More info on internet connection, please

I have rural telephone company as ISP; don't have wireless router in house.

Room with TV isn't room with modem, but it does have telephone jack. What type of "wired ethernet" cable do I buy; is it different from HDMI gold cable, & can it be installed into the telephone line or does it need to ge installed into the modem (at last house I had internet via cable--so this is all new to me.) (P.S. I stream movies from Netflix onto my computer screen all the time, but I wanted to use this DVD player.) thanks so much for your help.

Thanks

If you have dial-up Internet, then you cannot connect the ethernet to anything. If you have DSL, then you may have more than one ethernet (LAN) connection on your DSL modem. A standard category 5 ethernet cable will work, it will need to be ran from the modem all the way to the other room with the tv. If the modem doesn't have an extra ethernet port, then you will need a router to share the internet connection with the computer and Blu-ray player (or you could just unplug the computer from the modem when you want to access BD-Live info or stream Netflix).

I'm guessing you have DSL. At the entry to your house, there is a device that splits the phone and internet. As far as I know you can't have another device attached. You would have to run a standard ethernet cable from your modem (if it has more than 1 outlet) to the player. If it only has 1 outlet, then you need to add a router.

If you have wireless internet in your home already, than with this player you need to buy the Samsung Wireless LAN adaptor Model WIS09ABGN. I found one online and bought it. I tried with other wireless adaptors but couldn't connect wirelessly. Than I read the mannual and it states that you can only connect wirelessly by using the above Samsung adaptor model. I just got it in the mail today and plugged it into the USB port on the back (can't use the front one if you want to connect wirelessly). I went to the network setup chose wireless, and than clicked to search for wireless network. It found my access point and prompted me for my password since I have it security enabled. Now I can stream my Netflix. (also has Blockbuster, YouTube and Pandora)

Box and documentation state "Wifi Ready" but you must purchase USB Wifi adapter. I guess Samsung believes a USB port makes something Wifi ready. Very misleading. Have owned for only 1 day.

To instantly stream Netflix movies to your TV or computer, you need a broadband Internet connection with a speed of at least 1.5 Mbps. A 3 Mbps connection will provide the best performance and picture quality. Some lower cost DSL connections will not provide sufficient bandwidth.

answer 2
Great question. Although from the info I have, it does not state a required network speed, I would assume you would want a network that can handle large amounts of data quickly since you will be dealing with video and audio data streams from the internet. The faster your network is, the more information can be sent to the player and the better the picture and sound will be.
