What is the frame made of?
The web ad for the 24" XR-75 mongoose bike (Model# R3598WMC) says the frame is aluminum, then further down it says the frame is steel. Which is it?

It's not a typo. There are two pieces of the frame. The front half is aluminum (the larger portion of the frame). The rear portion of the frame is steel. Mongoose does this to reduce the weight with some aluminum, and reduce the cost with some steel.

It's steel. They probably made a typo. No aluminum framed bike weighs 40 lbs.

size and age range
My sons, ages 9 and 11, are a little too tall for a 20-inch bike, but the 24-inch bike seems too tall. Can the seat be adjusted on this bike? I have searched for 22-inch bikes but they all seem to cost hundreds of dollars. Thank you.

Boys are very adaptable when it comes to bikes. We've all had bikes that have been a bit to tall but we got use to it. Go with the 24 inch bikes. They will last longer.

Yes, there should be pre drilled mounts in the frame already and if not Walmart sells waterbottle holders that attach to the handlebars.
