Nope, just can hook up to any tv with audio and video cable plugs in the back. I had an old analog tv hooked up to it for a while.

Depends what plugs are available on the back or side of your particular tv.

there is no optical plug on that TV but no biggie just use an HDMI cable instead. You wont notice the difference as this particular receiver is not the best out there. If this were a $500 receiver I might have a different story but as is just go with HDMI...

It is best to refer to the TV manual to see if there is an Optical port for OUTPUT. If there is no Optical port then you will not be able to make the connection. However you can always connect the optical port from another device, such as, Dish Network, Digital Cable Box, DVD or Blu-ray into the RTD317 unit.

You may have the answer for this by now, but your television is listed on the Walmart site as having a digital audio out hook-up. Some of these tvs have these hookups underneath the back of the TV. They can be a little difficult to get to.

When it is in 5.1 surround mode. Make sure your TV is set to it. If it's not broadcast in 5.1, then the surround speaker will not work.

answer 4
Surround sound will depend on the source of the signal. For example, when playing a DVD, for all the speakers to work, you will need to play a 5.1 encoded DVD, but not all DVDs are in 5.1. Also keep in mind that even when the disk is 5.1, the rear speakers only turn on when needed to enhance the surround effect. They are not meant to be on all the time. Hope this clears it up.

answer 6
Only when 5.1 audio is available and chosen. You have to pick surround and then it has to be available from your cable provider and or the dvd you're listening and watching, not all have them.

Mine kick in during commercials mostly or while watching a movie on cable or newer dvds and if comcast you gotta have the volume on your main box menu turned to surround heavy. You get that in the audio set up section of the main menu.

It's kind of goofy how the thing works, I find it perfect for my bedroom and have the surrounds on each side of the bedposts. Then it works good, living room it's kind of weak, but it's alright. I have this one and the higher up RCA one with the metal speakers, that one is much better.

But I got this one with the Vizio tv I bought from here.

I am assuming that you are referring to the rear speakers being wireless. No, those are not wireless and on any surround system I have purchased it clearly states when they have this option, so the lack of this option should provide you with a clear answer in the future.

This system does not have a DVD burner so the easy answer is no. If you are a very technical person, it is possible to do what you want with an HDMI cable but remember, burning movies is against the law so I wont explain how in any detail but it is possible just not with this unit alone as you will need a DVD burner.
