CWilson is correct: The attachments/tools are missing. But you can buy them at the Shark Navigator website (http://www.sharknavigator.com) for $41 plus Shipping & Handling. To account for the missing tools, Wal-Mart's price is $40 lower than at the Shark Navigator website.
P.S. If you buy at the Shark website, you also pay $46 for Shipping & Handling. Be sure to include this charge when you compare prices.

Yes but it doesn't come with all the attachments. If you have other vacuums try those attachments on it. Mine work on it.

For thick throw rugs you can put the vacuum on bare floor which stops the brush roll from turning and just use it the suction which is good i did that to a thin entry way rug we have and sucked up everything but the rug with out the brush roll being on.

answer 2
I've found that the vacuum is less likely to suck up the thicker, heavier rugs than the thinner ones. Don't expect to run the cleaner back and forth on a rug like you do on a carpet though. The best method I've found to vacuum rugs is to start in the middle of the rug and pull it toward you. Then go back to the middle of the rug and push it away from you to get the other side. But always pick the vacuum up when you reach the edge of the rug or it will suck it up no matter how thick it is.

Most likely to keep the machine from sucking up heavier, unseen, metal or glass things that could harm the impeller. A simple piece of tape over the holes would fix that if it's a problem.

This is a trade off from having to lug around a huge heavy machine. Plus the hose is made much better than most others and thus heavier than most adding to that problem.
