Contact the provider of your Medical Alert system. My personal opinion is stick with a land line for your Medical Alert system.

It should but I don't recommend it due to reliability issues. Go to magicJack website: >http://www.magicjack.com/7/faq/< for more info. If you don't see your question listed click To reach a live person at this website: >http://www.magicjack.com/7/magicfix.asp<

Yes you can. Magic Jack now offers phone number portability.

Just make sure you don't cancel with your previous phone company before the phone transfer is done. Magic Jack charges one-time fee of $20 for the service. I just did it. Switched from AT&T and it took a few days for the transfer to happen.

Yes you can keep your same # now, when we go magicjack 2 years ago you could not, but we didn't care because it was worth getting rid of a monthly phone bill and all the fees.

It shouldn't interfere with an existing landline because the Majic Jack plugs into your computer. I had one while I was in Iraq, and it worked quite well, except when it was peak time on the internet. You shouldn't have any broadband issues if you are using it in the states.

I am using a magicJack. It can have no effect on your land line, unless you physically plug it into your land line wiring (such as a phone wall jack). If you have your home wired for a 2nd line, you could plug it in to that second line and use it from any jack on that 2nd line wiring, as long as that 2nd line wiring is not connected to any other service.

Yes, each with its own phone number and yearly charge. Both can be on the same network, but they each need their own computer to be hooked up to.

I have had 3 magicJacks hooked up successfully in my house. However, if you connect them to the phone wall jacks, you can only connect 1 per wired line, my house is wired for 2 lines, so I had 2 connected to the 2 wired lines. The third was just connected to 1 phone. Please note that, because of software limitations (as far as I can determine), only 1 magicJack can be connected to 1 computer. I had to connect the 3 magicJacks to 3 separate PCs.

Yes you can.

You need a minimum UPLOAD speed of 128 kb/s for Magic Jack to work.

Go to this site to test your connection speed from the PC you want to use for your Magic Jack:

http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

Remember that MB/s is better than kb/s

Any high speed internet connection should work. The bandwidth required is only perhaps about .3Mbps, but this is acontinuous need.

As you know it uses your computer and Internet service so you can make local and long distance calls in the U.S. and Canada with no monthly bills. It works with DSL and Cable, The faster the speed the better the connection. I guess for some a slower speed does not work.
To use magicjack, you take the time to register (so 911 will locate you) and add contacts (address phone numbers etc to make dialing easy).
You connect any household phone (croless or with a cord) to magicJack--or you can use your speaker/micro on your computer to call or a computer headset too. Then you plug magicJack into an available USB port on your computer, using the supplied extension cord if needed. Finally you wait for the completion screen to appear to use your phone like you always have. (NOTE: You must check to make use the magicjack setting is for telephone and not headset or your phone will not work. Also this where you adjust the volume. Sometime if the volume is set on max you get an echo. It can be fixed by turning it down some.
There are not many instruction as to how to set up your voice mail boxes, message etc but once you figure the system out you can do it. I think they can improve on how that part is set up, however once you figure it out, it is great! I love to be able to get my messages---they are clear too!
One problem I am having is the timestamp seem to be for back east when a call comes in so it is how to know what time the call actually occurred but the day is always correct. So far i have not found a way to correct this issue.
As others have said, you can use the computer at the same time however depending on what you are doing it can affect the ability for clear function. It can cause the voice to cut out like on a cell phone. So I just avoid scrolling and any voice/movie type function while using the phone. It is great to be able to look up info while talking on the phone!
I heard you can plug magicjack directly to your modem so your phone works all the time but i have not found a way to make that work as of yet.
I hope my view is helpful.

MagicJack will not send you a bill. The software you install on your computer will remind you to renew your service. You can renew your annual subscription at magicjack.com. If you do not renew your subscription then your service will stop. You can renew your subscription at any time, but if you let your subscription lapse then you may lose your phone number.

MagiJack should have no effect ....IF. The most important thing to consider is band width. If you use dialup, you'll hate the thing cause you wasted your money. The higher your band width is from your ISP, the better your MagicJack will perform. And your ISP will never know you have it unless you live on the phone and they decide to "listen in". Exceptions are Sprint and Cricket Wi-Fi connections. If they catch you using it, they'll shut you down in a heartbeat because it's big time competition for them. A lot of ISPs offer VOIP and charge you out the nose for it...a big rip.
