Questions & Answers for Spring Valley Spring Valley Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, 12 oz

Question

Hardened product

This product, when refrigerated as directed, hardened so hard it requires it be scraped out of bottle. Is there something wrong with the product or should it be this way? If it is supposed to be this way is there an easy way to get it out of the bottle?

You can leave coconut oil at room temp. It will not become liquid until it reaches 76 degrees F. There's nothing wrong with it :) you don't have to refrigerate it unless your home is unusually warm, and even then it's not necessary. We keep ours on our daughter's changing table because we use it for her diaper rashes since we cloth diaper her and it clears them up in only a few applications.

I think its normal to harden.
I use a butter knife and scrape just a bit out, as you do not need much, depending on what you use it for. I then rub in my hands for like 30 seconds and its melted.
Also, the knife makes sure no bacteria from my skin is transferred to the oil.

Question

Is this product "made with" extra virgin coconut oil, along with other ingredients?

The statement "made with extra virgin coconut oil" does not seem entirely forthright. Is there something other than extra virgin coconut oil that this product is "made with"? And I ask not only because of the verbiage, but also the taste seems different (not as pronounced coconut taste) compared to Nutiva brand.

On the package for ingredient it only states organic coconut oil, it maybe because its a different company some items may or maynot be similar in taste, for example for me there's a taste difference in nilla wafers store brand and nabisco, you may also have very defined taste buds.

No it's all natural. Only refined coconut oil uses chemicals. If it does'nt smell like coconuts its been refined. And lost most of it's healing and moisturizing properties.

Unrefined and organic :)

I suspect it is refined because unrefined coconut oil is SOLID at room temperature and THIS product is LIQUID at room temperature. Conclusion: It's therefore refined in some way.

Question

Refrigeration, yes or no?

The label on the jar indicated that the product should be refrigerated after opening. However, after refrigeration the product almost turned to rock. It was very hard to use. Does it really need to be refrigerated?

They (company) have to put that on the label to cover themselves but I would say no, I don't refrigerate mine, but I also don't use mine to cook with, you can place some in another container put in warm bath or in microwave when your ready for it, but its not good food practice to heat anything over and over, I hope this helps ;0)

I looked this up online and keep getting this answer: "coconut oil is practically all saturated fat, and thus very shelf-stable. " You dont need to refrigerate it unless you want it to be solid. Since Im using mine mostly for my skin, I like it to be liquid.

answer 4
Yes, this product does need to be refrigerated. If this product is exposed to temperatures above 76 degrees Fahrenheit, the oil will liquefy. You may leave the product out for about 30 minutes for the oil to start to liquefy making the product easier to use.

I just scoop some out after a shower and apply to my face for moisture (a LITTLE dab will do ya!) And for a hair mask, the same thing. Just scoop some out and smooth over damp hair. Wrap in a towel and let it sit for an hour or so then wash as normal.

You can use it straight from the jar or mix with other hair/face care items, a little does go a long way but play with different amounts to see what your body needs, good luck ;0)

answer 2
It is pure. Extra virgin always indicates purity. Think of extra virgin as the first oil to come from the coconut so it is the purest. If it had said simply virgin, it is still pure but the quality is a little less than extra virgin.

It is unrefined. Whenever you see the words "extra virgin" that product is completely unrefined. Also, you can tell refined coconut oil because it has absolutely NO smell. None of that coconut-ty goodness! :)

Either that or scoop some into a microwave safe dish and heat it up a bit to warm it and melt it :)

No, I take one spoon of the hardened oil from the jar, I put it in a little glass container and I warm it up in the microwave over for 30 seconds.
Then oil becomes liquid and it is easy to spread it on my skin.
