It comes apart to make it easy to clean. The heating element is the only part that is not immersible. The container where the oil goes separates completely from the outer shell.

It is very easy to clean. You can remove the top part (the coated black container of oil (its like a foil when you're baking a cake - so you just remove that foil and clean it without harming the appliance itself.

You can cook with the lid closed and it is preferred. The solution to the window steaming up is in the manual. Apply a small amount of oil. Then you can see right thru.

Yes, but the little window would cloud up and you couldn't see what was going on. I usually didn't use the top

Question

What is the filter on the lid for?

I just got this fryer, but in the instruction manual,it does not say what the filter is for. Hubby is saying it's to pour the oil through to filter the oil,but I'm just not so sure about that.

No that filter is NOT for the oil.. it is for the evaporated fumes from the oil. It filters it. You notice in mcds or wendys when you see the fryers a few feet above that are whats called "hoods" ? Those are large filters that filter the air that comes off the fryers so its not harmful to people and doesnt build up. Dont use it for filtering the oil! Just leave it as is and replace or clean as needed

I would contact walmart about it and ask them what they suggest you do. If it's under the purchase warrenty I'd take it back, otherwise ask them if you can get assitance outside of the store with a new cord. Good luck.

Looks like it is cast into the control unit. Also soldering a new one in would be a problem. Just get another one, they are such low price that all the work is not worth it. Sometimes the components do wear out.
