What is the filter on the lid for?
I just got this fryer, but in the instruction manual,it does not say what the filter is for. Hubby is saying it's to pour the oil through to filter the oil,but I'm just not so sure about that.

The filter is to catch the grease that is vented while cooking.

No that filter is NOT for the oil.. it is for the evaporated fumes from the oil. It filters it. You notice in mcds or wendys when you see the fryers a few feet above that are whats called "hoods" ? Those are large filters that filter the air that comes off the fryers so its not harmful to people and doesnt build up. Dont use it for filtering the oil! Just leave it as is and replace or clean as needed

On our last big fryer...it was to filter the smells, like fish, from filling the room.
