I live in Austin, TX. I am receiving all of our local channels better with this little TV, and the included external antenna, than the Dell HDTV I own with a $100 HDTV antenna.
However, if you hook it up to cable, you should get all the Clear-QAM channels and perhaps more. You can hook it up to a digital box, but like the old VCR, you need to select input and use the digital box remote to change channels. A/V cables can be had at your local Radio Shack.

No this unit does not require any additional antennas or boxes. You may connect stronger antennas to the unit if the signal in your area is not as strong.
