Questions & Answers for eMachines eMachines ET1331G-03W Desktop PC with AMD Athlon II X2 Dual-Core Processor & Windows 7 Home Premium

Question

Problem upgrading graphics card

Installed a new power supply which runs great. Ran into a problem, though, when I bought an nVidia GeForce 9500 GT graphics card, which for some reason is not recognized by the computer. I disabled the onboard graphics adapter via the device manager. I tried setting the bios to use video from the pci port (and also the pcie) but the only image I get is from the onboard vga connector. The card itself is getting power because the fan on it is running, but I can't get any farther. Is there a jumper or something else I need to do, or did I just get a bad card?

Download the latest nVidia Drivers. I think your problem is due to Windows 7 uncompatibility.

As with all computers and power supplies , please check to see what the wattage is , and the voltage rails and amperage of the power supply. If you use the wrong video card and the power supply cant handle it, your computer could become an expensive paperweight , and or require expensive repair.

Question

How many video cards can I hook up? Is it crossfire compatible?

This computer is not compatible with Crossfire because it has only 1 PCI Express x16 slot and a 300 watt power supply. You can add in a card, but check the box of the card you are buying before you install it to ensure it can work with your power supply. You might be able to purchase a better power supply to use a better card, but this is not covered in your warranty and can void it.

For expansion slots this PC has; 1 PCI slot (1 available), 2 PCI-E x1 slot (2 available), 1 PCI-E x16 slot (1 available). This PC has a 300W pwer supply. Check the crossfire requirements and compare.

Of course! The games you can play depends on the system requirements of each individual games. Windows 7 uses a Windows Experience Index rating to give you an idea of what kind of games your computer is playing and what games your computer cannot play sufficiently.

You can read here:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/What-is-the-Windows-Experience-Index

for more information about how the ratings work. Even though this article applies to Windows Vista it also applies to Windows 7.

You can add in another video card as well , but it has to be compatible with the current power supply in your computer.

Yes. With an AMD dual core processor, 6GB memory and NVIDIA graphics you can use this PC for playing games. It also has a 750GB hard drive so there is plenty of room for music/video or picture storage.

Yes you can upgrade.

Tech Specs: http://support.gateway.com/emachines/desktop/2009/emachines/et/ET1331/ET1331sp2.shtml

Basically, you'd want a PCI x16 graphics card because it has: One PCI Express 2.0 ×16 slot

ATI has some very good PCI x16 cards...

A PCI Class 56k modem is what you will be looking for. Technically if it says Vista compatible then it will work with Windows 7.

I would research each modem you have in mind before purchasing and download the drivers for it if a Windows 7 driver exists. You might find yourself in a situation unable to connect to the internet until the right driver is installed for the modem. Or in some other cases it might be a plug and play deal where the driver was already built into the system.

Most new computers now-a-days have a built-in dial-up modem so you shouldn't really have to buy one (if you can even find one). If you connect it to broadband (high-speed), your DSL or cable ISP will provide you with a high-speed modem...

Should be fine on those games, but Halo requires a patch before you play the game to address large memory issues.
