Yes, you can scan photos and I use a laptop and the pictures are beautiful. You won't believe the quality. I was totally amazed. My pictures come out looking look they were done at a photo studio.

its a top-loading paper printer

There is a back "flap" that pops out for loading paper...it's extremely small, maybe adds about an inch to how much space the printer needs behind it. The front has another "flip out" tray to collect the finished, printed docs; this adds 4" to the front (plus of course the length of the print).

Top Load

It's top loading (collapse-able when not in use). The bottom paper tray pops out when in use and collapses back into the printer after use.

Depending on the weight of your paper, it can hold several sheets. 30+ of lighter weighted paper. The paper goes into a compartment that folds out when in use. It is top loading. The paper comes out of the bottom that also folds out when in use. The picture you see on the internet is when all compartments are NOT in use and are closed.

I usually load about 12 or so pieces of paper in my printer.

My new printer has a paper feeder at the back of the printer and it holds many sheets of paper. The front of the printer is a door that pulls forward and down to allow the printed pages to exit.

Hold a big handful of paper, don't have to add paper for many, many printings

No you do not have to have the computer on to make copies.

The computer doesn't have to be on if you are photocopying but it has to be on if ur scanning coz it needs to be sent to the compy
