This has the Emerson brand name but is actually a Samsung model - shine a flashlight inside the back left speaker grille to see this. Except for the lack of inputs (switchboxes can take care of this issue), the TV has given me no trouble and has a great picture. I suppose if you have HD cable or Blu-Ray, and can really tell the difference between 720p and 1080p, you might be disappointed, but otherwise it has turned out to be a steal.

I purchased the Emerson 42" plasma TV about 10 days ago to use for TV viewing only. I have no complaints to report. I have been using Emerson products trouble free for over 35 years.

I don't know where you heard it is no good from but this TV has an excellent picture for the price. It looks fantastic when watching HD content such as Blu-ray and HD DVD. The biggest drawback is the lack of inputs.

Plasma is the technology used to display the HD image in this set. There are many different HDTV technologies. They will all display high resolution. You can have HDTVs that are picture tubes (direct view, front or rear projection), LCD (CCFL, LED or Edge lit LED as well as front or rear projection), DLP (LED, Halogen or Laser backlighting these are front or rear projection), LCOS (front or rear projection).

answer 2
Plasma is Gas and is what operates the TV, Many tiny cells between just two panels of glass hold a mixture of noble gases. The gas in the cells is electrically turned into a plasma which emits ultraviolet light which then excites phosphors to emit visible light. Plasma displays should not be confused with LCDs, another lightweight flatscreen display using different technology.. HD stands for Hi-definition, which means for a brighter and clearer picture.

This TV is energy star rated. You'd have to compare this set for set. This set uses less electricity than my 4 year old 32" LCD does, but most modern sets are more energy efficient than the older sets. It may use more than a comparable size modern LCD. Plasma, unlike LCD does not use a consistant amount of electricity, a bright scene uses more than a dark scene.

This depends on the source material you're using and how far you sit from the set. If you're strictly using cable, dish, or OTA you're unlikely to notice the difference because the networks broadcast no higher than 1080i. If you're using a Blu-ray you MAY notice a difference depending on how close you're sitting to the set. That said you may not notice either. A bad 1080p set can look worse than a good 720p set. I have this set (720p) and an LCD 1080p set, and the better black levels of this set and better color reproduction yield a better picture than the 1080p set offers even with a good Blu-ray. If you sit far away you're unlike to notice the difference as well.

Don't buy this TV at all... 720 looks great and does wonderful. The only reason I would even consider 1080 i or p would be for gaming that is about it. If you are not a gamer and are not going to be using a 1080 for gaming then I would just buy a 720, plus it's cheaper. Hope this helps.

It probably uses a tad more than a 32" picture tube but not likely much or at least not enough to double your electric bill. It actually uses less than my 4 year old 32" LCD did. I was out sick most of last month, and watched this TV extensively (almost double what I'd normally watch), the electric bill was maybe $10 higher than normal.

answer 2
Yes, it has a shiny black finish. The bezel is rounded enough so that it does't pose annoying reflections of your light is spaced wider (mine are lamps on either sides of a queen bed on the other side of the room) or higher than the TV, it would be worse if it was a flat bezel or your light was spaced closer together.
