Question

Does Gold gym Stride Trainer 595 Elliptical have a power cord for AC or does it run purely on batteries?

answer 1
They did not supply the AC DC Adapter (converter). The machine requires DC 6 volts, minimum 2 amperes output. I could not find it at Walmart store in Simi Valley, California. I went to Radio Shack. I did not like their solution. Recently, I went to Taiwan for something else. During my spare time, I found a perfect adapter rated DC 6 volts 2 amperes, which works beautifully with this exercise machine. In my product review posted on Feb 19, 2011, I strongly recommend the manufacturer to throw in the AC DC adapter and the retailer to carry the AC Dc adapter. I have good reason to believe that the OEM cost (for the adapter) to the manufacturer could be under US$3.00. I hope some major retailers will carry it and sell it at reasonable price. If they don't, I will import.

I believe you can purchase a power cord for this machine. I remember seeing some flyer with the owners manual about it.

It can run on 4D batteries but they don't last long at all! I wouldn't risk a universal adapter on this device but the adapter from the company is close to $90. Ouch!

The cheapest I've seen a OEM replacement cord for was about $40 both on eBay and a site called HomeGymPower.biz.

You can use either batteries (size D x4) or an AC adapter.

I highly recommend using an AC adapter with the trainer, as the battery compartments seem a bit of a challenge to get to.

After reading some of the problems on this site about the adapters and not finding any info in the book about the voltage or the amps, I finally took the advice that someone had left about going to radio shack and getting their 6 volt adapter with the 2.5 amp.

Model #273-318 and got the M tip for free #273-344 as a promotion.

The adapter was $40 but it fit the requirements of the machine as I took a flashlight to the adapter port on the monitor and realized that it states right on the back of the monitor (in black of course) that it requires a 6v output with a MINIMUM 2 amp. I've been using it for a week now and haven't had any problems. Hope that helps! Also, don't forget to set your polarity to positive!

Question

Weight of Product (175 pounds?)

(question continued)

The product description for this unit says that it weighs about 175 pounds, is this correct? If I order the product and get it shipped to my home, canI take individual parts out of the box and carry them in or is the unit in one whole piece?

I am just "envisioning" how difficult it will be for me to carry this unit up a flight of stairs.

Thanks.

I am not sure exactly how much it weighed. But it was heavy. When I bought it, I asked my son to come along with me. It took 2 people to load it onto my small SUV, and unload it at home. We used a dolly to wheel it into the house. Assemble it by one person is possible. I did most of it by myself. Occasionally you need somebody to hold something for you. To carry it upstairs you definitely need two people. The frame and flywheel are fixed together already and they are the majority of the total weight.

Yes, there are lots of parts that can be taken out of box and upstairs. However, be advised that the main base unit (flywheel), is one piece and weighs approx. 125.
I'm 5'5, 160 lbs, and though didn't go up flight of stairs, I lugged it in my house with little problem. It's more awkward than heavy. You should have no problem with two people.

answer 3
The box is definitely heavy. I had to open it up in the living room and take the parts downstairs in sections. It actually worked out pretty well because I was able to take the main box outside without having to drag it back up the stairs. And, I was able to lay out the all the parts which made it easier to put the machine together.

It does come in a lot of small parts but the main frame is still very heavy I'm guessing but I would say over 100 lbs or more. It was hard for me to get it out of the box with my sons help. You would never be able to carry it upstairs by yourself.

answer 5
Though you can remove parts, the main body weighs roughly 120 pounds and is bulky. It would be well worth renting a dolly if you cannot get a friend to help. 2 people should be able to handle moving the box but it would sure be tough for just one.

The box that the product comes in is HUGE and very heavy. If you are home when the product is delivered, the delivery men will bring it inside for you. My delivery men used a dolly and it did take two of them to get it in the house. You could definately open the box and carry individual pieces, that would be no problem at all.

Yes it has plastic wide wheels on the front support and a heavy duty handle on the rear foot support. Mine wheels around easily and my house is all carpet. It's easy to maneuver and fits easily through a 28 inch door frame.

Yes, It has wheels on the front of the machine. On the back there is a handle that you can lift up and roll the machine to where ever you need it. It is a heavy machine (175lbs) so always lift with your knees not your back, but it is not that difficult to move. I do not recommend moving it around stairs though.. Thats an accident waiting to happen.

The wheels sit on the front, and they work well enough to roll it across the floor. There is a lift bar attached to the rear stabilizer bar allowing you to pick it up and move it easily.

I have only moved it across a hardwood floor, so I can say how well it rolls across carpeting.

There are 2 wheels on the very front for maneuverability. There's a bar on the back to grab to pick it up & relocate it. Not too hard to move like that.

Question

What tools are required ?

I just bought the Stridetrainer 595, and am waiting on my brother to help me get it in the house and put it together. He wants to know what tools are required, and since we still have to get it in the house, I am hesitant to undo the bands and open it to check the instructions. I have looked on all sides of the box that I can see, and do not see what tools are required. Also, what kind of batteries are needed ?

It comes with two allen wrenches so all you need is a medium sized phillips screwdriver and a crescent wrench. It's very easy to assemble. I did it myself in about an hour and a half while I was watching a movie.

You only need a Philips screwdriver and a medium crescent wrench to put the elliptical together. Two hex wrenches are included in the parts box.

"D" cell batteries are used in this elliptical machine but I would buy the Jensen Jen1700 Universal DC adapter instead so you won't have to swap out the batteries.

Question

Power Cord Isn't Working

I purchased this power cord (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Jensen-500mAh-Universal-AC-Adapter/10760252) as suggested but it doesn't work. I went ahead and put in the D batteries to make sure everything's working and it's perfect. But I'd really rather use the power cord. Any ideas? Thanks!

Ok, I looked at the link of your adapter and it says, 500mA, that means it is a 0.500 Amp adapter, You need one that has a minimum of 2.0 Amps.
The only thing that is right about your current adapter is that it has a 6.0 volt setting and that is why it works, but is staticy.

so again, you need 6.0 volt 2.0 amp adapter.

you have a 6.0 volt 0.500 amp adapter.

hope that helped

Actually, it's the right adapter, I just didn't realize the plug attachments have polarity. I simply flipped it around and it works fine. Now my issue is that it causes interference when I use my iPod. Any suggestions for that?

YEA THE ANSWER IS SIMPLE, YOU PURCHASED THE WRONG ADAPTER. FOR THAT PARTICULAR MACHINE IF YOU LOOK AT WHERE THE CORD INSERTS IT SAYS 6 VOLT 2AMP MINIMUM. THE ADAPTER YOU PURCHASED IS A 500MA OR IN OTHER WORDS 0.5AMPS.
GET AN ADAPTER THAT HAS A 6.0 VOLT OUTPUT AND A 2 AMP MINIMUM RATING.
