Question

Will this hook up to a surround sound receiver?

My husband bought a Pioneer surround sound that already had a subwoofer. During our recent move, the subwoofer was damaged and now we are running a surround sound without the subwoofer. He's hinted for Christmas that he wants to replace the subwoofer. I am just not familiar with electronics but want to surprise him. I am wondering if this subwoofer would hook up to his receiver?? I am not sure if they hook up with RCA jacks or not. I know the subwoofer and his receiver have a line in, but I'm just wanting to make sure this would hook up to his existing surround sound. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!!

If you already had a subwoofer for your system, you need to determine if it was a powered speaker or not. If it was powered, then this product will work. If it was not powered, then you would want to look for a non-powered subwoofer that would save you some considerable money.

A subwoofer is really made only to boost very low notes, explosions, thunder, and very low rumbling sounds, like the boom, boom, boom, of da big base drum; so no.

That is not what a Sub speaker is for. It is just for low frequency sound.
Technically, yes, it could be done-but why? (It would sound horrible)

yes but it will only be bass and sound terrible. Also you would need a double ended male mini jack and a mini to rca adapter.

I'm not sure if you can plug the I-phone direct into the sub. If your I-phone has RCA jacks or an adapter to fit RCA jacks it may be possible depends on the type of jacks on the I-phone. I don't have a I-phone but an Apple tech could tell you for sure.

You can possibly do that, by connecting the headphone jack of your phone to the LINE IN jack of the unit, however you would need an adapter or a stereo mini to mono cable. You can check Walmart's array of cables and accessories for availability.

It's a powered 120v subwoofer w/ 1 line in connection. As long as your device has a subwoofer jack, super woofer jack, mono out jack or mix out jack, it'll work. It also has "wired" speaker connections.

Will this subwoofer work with my older RCA receiver

Then yes.

answer 2
It should. There are two ways to hook this up to you existing system. The subwoofer has a singl coaxial input as well as "high-pass" speaker wire inputs.

Coaxial hook-up (cable is supplied) is a line out from the back of your receiver and it should say something along the lines of subwoofer preout, or subwoofer line out, something like that. Then you take this single cable and hook it from your receiver to the subwoofer.

The other way is to hook it up "in line" with your existing speaker wires. You would need some more speaker wire, but you would take the speaker wires that are running to your current speakers and hook them to the Right and Left speaker style inputs on the back of the subwoofer and then run new speaker wire from the outputs of the woofer to your existing speakers. Pretty easy to do.
The neat thing about this second setup is that the subwoofer acts like an in-line filter for your speakers. Meaning it will filter out any frequency below what you set it at and it will not send any of those frequecncies to you speakers. So if you have a set of smaller speakers, you do not have to worry about them getting any of those lower end bass signals because the subwoofer will take them and will not let them pass through.

It will work on anything that has a RCA phone jack out. I think it will work fine just plug it into an audio outlet

answer 5
This sub has multiple input options.
If your receiver has a sub output, yes this sub will work using it's (the sub's) power.
If your older receiver does not have sub output, you can wire this sub using your speaker outs to the sub then run the remainder of your speakers from the sub.
This is not the best option. It will make use of the sub's amplifiers to push the rest of your speakers.
I Highly Recommend the Sony subwoofers. Great Value.
