Questions & Answers for Straight Talk Straight Talk Samsung Prepaid Phone with Keyboard, R451C

Question

How is the service? Any dropped calls?

I have just disconnected my phone service with Verizon which was originally with Alltel and I'm looking at Straight Talk and the Samsung R451c as I had a LG Scoop with Alltel. How is the service? I hate getting dropped on calls. I want service to be there when "I" need the phone. Are you pleased with the service? I've heard that the Call Center is outsourced which I don't like. Any feedback you can give me is much appreciated!

Well it depends on what you meant by outsoured but what i can say is that since i started using the phone i have never had a drop in call, just for the record i am that type of person who spend atleast 30mins on most calls.I think you won't regret the service since the internet speed is also faster.

Straight talk uses the verizon prepaid network and is pretty true to the purple map minus the violet roaming areas. You can go to VZW.com and on the coverage locator page, highlight the prepaid option and update for a zoomable map. I have not had any issues in my area, but I didn't on Verizon previously.

I'm not sure where you live at, but unless you live in an area that it's hard to get service anyway, you should have no problems! Besides, you have 30 days to decide if it meets your needs and it comes with a 1000 min card if you order it from Wal-Mart Site to Store. I am extremely pleased with mine! I live in a very small town in S. Georgia and my service is great! It has dropped when I'm trying to access the internet a couple of times, but that's it.

I have only dropped one call in the few weeks I've had it. I previously had US Cellular and almost never dropped a call in the all the years I had it. But, for the price, I can live with the occasional dropped call.

I have not contacted customer service, and outsourced or not, I find MOST customer service centers annoying. It truly is hard to find good service these days! Again, for the price I'm willing to accept outsourced service.

Yes the call center seems outsourced and is pretty lame. They can do nothing but read scripts. But I have the phone and plan you are considering. I think it is a great deal and the phone works fine except it will not pair with my Garmin properly. Otherwise, I have had no dropped calls at all yet. It is my understanding that Straight Talk uses the Verizon network. My second phone is Verizon and I have always had service there when I needed it.

www.straighttalk.com They have all the FAQ's and info you will need there. You can dock your number and it takes a few minutes to a few hours. It took my father in law about an hour to be able to use his phone. If it's a landline, it can take up to 30 days depending on who your current service is through.

Yes! Here is the thing though, when you go to activate the phone, as soon as the rep gets on the line, make it clear "first thing" that you want to import your pre-exisitng number to your new straighttalk phone. Otherwise, if you just start off by telling them you want to activate your new phone, they will start asking you questions and create your new account, with your new number, before you have a chance to tell them you want to keep your old number. Be prepaired to give them the name of your current provider and any info needed for them to verify that the number does belong to you.

As stated before... you cannot do apps or view Youtube because this phone has the "Java" disabled.... but YES.. you can go to Facebook and even view statues updates and post new ones and even answer friend invites... I use Facebook all the time on this phone.. even Myspace. Unlike many pre-paid phone which have limited internet... this phone does not restrict it's internet (to a certain degree).. I go just about anywhere I want (use Go to URL option in the menu)... but remember, the internet is only 1G (1x) not 3G... and it is NOT HTML supported (very few pictures on web-pages) but you will see some... I have used this phone for about 6 months now.. very well worth the price and very good service...

It does have a web browser. Like with any prepaid service, you won't be able to do facebook apps. It's mainly for quick searches and such. You won't even be able to view FB mobile.

This has an AMAZING camera! Even fast motion comes out crisp and clear, not pixilized, fuzzy or blurry at all! You also get text/media messaging. See the plan cards for all the details.

If you use a "web" based email service (hotmail, yahoo, gmail, etc...) you can by just logging into the website from your phones mobile browser but this phone has NO dedicated email client so if you use a "POP3" type account you cannot get your email... I use a POP3 account for my desktop at home and then made a free hotmail account just for my phone and have it set to send me a SMS txt message if a new email comes in... Easy to do... takes about five (5) minutes to set-up...

You can, but it's pretty basic. You can set an alert and reminder up to one day ahead. There is a tiny triangle that shows up on the day you have something scheduled and you can view it.

I personally use Outlook for appointments. I want to see upcoming appointments further in advance, and want them spelled out. I don't want to see a bunch of triangles that all look the same and don't mean anything unless I look at them all. But that's just me!

I would say yes. Not the best I have used with a contracted phone however. It will allow a quick memo and reminders etc. You cannot set it repeat yearly or weekly etc... The phone will also hold a certain amount of appointments. I found this adding in all my daughter's cheer competitions and football games etc... I was able to add more by deleting all past history, so was then not a problem.

from what i have seen, any number that you currently "own" you can port within its appropriate service area. i.e. you cannot take a number with a miami area code and port it to an atlanta zip code, but you can port any miami number to any applicable zip code.

Yes, you may indeed port any number from any service as long as it's still active. But please keep in mind, moving from GSM (SIM Card) to CDMA (Non-SIM Card) will take longer, and the process is much more difficult.

Yes, you may transfer your telephone number from another company to Straight Talk. To port in your existing telephone number to your Straight Talk phone, the number you are porting must be active with your current service provider.

You need to request Straight Talk to port in your number, Straight Talk will process your request in your behalf. In order to request the transfer and initiate the activation process please go to www.straighttalk.com/Activate,and select the radio button option "Activate my phone with a number transferred from another company."

The transferring of your number to a new Straight Talk might take a few hours; however, if there are any delays from your current wireless carrier, the transfer process could take up to 7 days and in the case of landline numbers, transfers may take up to 30 days.

Your new Straight Talk will be ready to complete activation when your old phone stops working. From Straighttalk.com
