I just purchased this pool, too, just last week, but it is actually made by Intex, if you read the manufacturer's information on the booklet that comes with your pool. My pool even has Intex stamped on the side. So yes, this salt water system will work with your pool.

If your talking about a cartridge, it doesn't use one. the saltwater system does have to be used with a filter pump which came with your pool. the setup video tells you the minimum gph of the pump and how to connect it

This is not a pump. It is a chlorine generator. You must use your pool pump WITH this product. Intex does make a chlorine generator/pump all-in-one. But it is pretty expensive. It is on their website if you want more info.

Question

I have an Older Intex pool

I have an older Intex Pool and Pump. The model number to the pump is Krystal Clear Pool Filterpump Model #635. The hose sizes are apprx. 1-1/2 Od. Will this Salt Sanitizer work with this type of older style pump.. And the reason I call it older is because it is about 3 years old and they keep changing models.

Should work. Mine came with several adapters. Worst case, you would need to spend a few dollars on a different adapter.

Question

Free Chlorine (ppm) is reading low

I am using the test strips that came with the pump and it still says the free chlorine is at 0.2. I have a 24'x 48" pool and I'm running the saltwater system for 10 hours a day. Is there anything I can do to get the free chlorine level up? Could this be why the pool is cloudy?

Do you have cyanuric acid (stabilizer) in the water? Without cyanuric acid the sun will severely reduce your chlorine level. Cyanuric acid is like sunscreen for your chlorine. This is covered in the manual that came with the unit. Too little or too much cyanuric acid is a bad thing, so read the manual and put in the right amount. This could definitely be why the pool is cloudy.

Sounds as if your water chemistry is not balanced. High chlorine will not make the water cloudy, but Total Alkalinity too high will. pH too high will cause poor chlorine efficienty, but make sure the TA is correct first.
Check out Aquachem.com pool test section. You have to register and give info about your pool, then enter in the letter designation from the test strips.
You should add chemicals slowly to the pool. One type every 2-3 hours while the pump is running and give the pool water 24 hours to see the change. Swimming is a Leisure activity and water chemistry takes it's time so go slow.

Question

What is the ideal chlorine level when using this saltwater system?

According to my instruction booklet, the ideal free chlorine level is 0.4-1.5ppm and minimum is 0. How can 0 be ok. Ran my system for 4 days 12 hour each and then ran my system on boost for 36 hours, all other levels were fine, salt, copper, ph alk, cy acid, but chlorine was still reading at 0 with a strip and drops test. Also reading 0 at pool supply store water testing. Most of the reviews I have read said they never had to add anything, Do I need to add chlorine and will I have to continue to do so? If so, this isn't saving any money for me at all.

It sounds like the unit is not working. Test the water coming back into the pool while the unit is running to see what the chlorine level is. If it is zero, you probably have a bad unit and should call Intex for replacement. You should not have to add additional chlorine, but if the unit is not working, you will need to add it until you get a replacement unit. Also, the ideal chlorine level will vary depending on your cyanuric acid (stabilizer) level, but zero is never okay under any circumstances.

FC and TC both should be in the range of 2 - 3 ppm. Run the unit long enough for the units green light to stay on, about a minute. Look down at the Hose from the filter pump just past the Flow Sensor, you should be able to see the 2 metal strips of the Electrolytic Cell - the water should look cloudy like small white bubbles flowing. That's chlorine being generated. If not the unit maybe defective. The other thing is to make sure the filter outlet is hooked up to the flow sensor. If it is reversed, hooked up to the Hose Return to the pool side of the unit, the flow sensor will not make contact and the unit will not turn on. Your pump must also have a minimum flow rate of 700 gallons an hour. If the unit is working properly you should not have to add store bought chlorine.

I have read on other sites that it is fine to use this even if you have already been using chlorine in your water. After all, chlorine is salt, NaCl! Others have used Shock in addition to this product, especially for larger pools.

You can find bulk salt at ALDI for about $2.99 or $3.99. About every grocery store, hardware store or super centers like Target or Wal-Mart will have it. Prices vary from place to place.

Walmart and Samsclub both sell 40 lb bags. I have seen it at Lowes also, walmart price is about 5.50 for 40 lbs. I use about 200 lbs for 20' x 48" pool. Works well...
