I just purchased this pool, too, just last week, but it is actually made by Intex, if you read the manufacturer's information on the booklet that comes with your pool. My pool even has Intex stamped on the side. So yes, this salt water system will work with your pool.

Question

What is the ideal chlorine level when using this saltwater system?

According to my instruction booklet, the ideal free chlorine level is 0.4-1.5ppm and minimum is 0. How can 0 be ok. Ran my system for 4 days 12 hour each and then ran my system on boost for 36 hours, all other levels were fine, salt, copper, ph alk, cy acid, but chlorine was still reading at 0 with a strip and drops test. Also reading 0 at pool supply store water testing. Most of the reviews I have read said they never had to add anything, Do I need to add chlorine and will I have to continue to do so? If so, this isn't saving any money for me at all.

It sounds like the unit is not working. Test the water coming back into the pool while the unit is running to see what the chlorine level is. If it is zero, you probably have a bad unit and should call Intex for replacement. You should not have to add additional chlorine, but if the unit is not working, you will need to add it until you get a replacement unit. Also, the ideal chlorine level will vary depending on your cyanuric acid (stabilizer) level, but zero is never okay under any circumstances.

FC and TC both should be in the range of 2 - 3 ppm. Run the unit long enough for the units green light to stay on, about a minute. Look down at the Hose from the filter pump just past the Flow Sensor, you should be able to see the 2 metal strips of the Electrolytic Cell - the water should look cloudy like small white bubbles flowing. That's chlorine being generated. If not the unit maybe defective. The other thing is to make sure the filter outlet is hooked up to the flow sensor. If it is reversed, hooked up to the Hose Return to the pool side of the unit, the flow sensor will not make contact and the unit will not turn on. Your pump must also have a minimum flow rate of 700 gallons an hour. If the unit is working properly you should not have to add store bought chlorine.

We added it WHILE the water truck was FILLING the pool. It really helps mix it up.

We purchase water and we tested the water with the test strips provided right after the pool had been filled. We have a 24 x 12 pool and chose to add the initial set up qty that same day. We set the timer and the pump did the rest. The next morning I tested the water again and the ph was right where it should be. Now we test it every 2 wks and have not had to add any salt yet. You boost the system after a hard rain and your levels come right back. It's great and very easy to maintain.

any size, the difference will only be in the hours of the day you set it to be on. my pool is a 16'x 42" and it is set to be on 2 hours in a 24 hour period automatically. The larger the pool, the more hours you set it to be on. easy to use book comes with the product.

No, your pool is too large. However, I found a similar item on Sam's Club's website. It is about twice the price of this system. However, your pool is quite large. The one on Sam's Club is a floating, solar-powered device that does the same thing as this one. Would be perfect for your pool.

Question

Is the model 54601 the same as the model 56601? What is the difference if any?

I noticed that some stores are out of stock with one model unit but have the other model. Would like to know what the difference in them is.

56601 is the "old" model (what I have). It has twice the maximum chlorine output, but does not produce copper. 54601 adds copper to the water. Some say that's good and some say it's bad, I really don't know.

I believe the 56401WL is the new 2010 model with the copper ionization for better algae control.

The 56601 is an older model with out the copper ionization control.

you can use a regular filter type pump if you have an above ground pool. This unit is just an inline chlorinator.

answer 2
You do not need a sand pump BUT YOU DO NEED A PUMP (the one that came with your pool) ALONG WITH THE SALTWATER SYSTEM. The water 1st runs through your standard filter pump to clean water then through the saltwater system then back into your pool.
