Question

Will this work if it is installed at an angle?

The door frame that we would mount one side of the gate to is not directly opposite the banister... it is about 3 inches to one side. Can it be installed at an angle?

I don't know about a 3" angle but we just installed ours at about a 1" angle and it works perfectly.

We installed ours at a slight angle, about 2 inches off center, to make sure we caught studs. We have had no trouble with it latching at that angle, just make sure you attach the hinge bar first, when attach the gate to see where you need to line up the lock side of the gate at so you have a good fit.

I accidently mounted it at a bit of an angle; one bracket is about 1/2 inch off from the other. It works fine. I don't how far off you can be, however.

3" off center should be fine but it would be pretty close to the max offset.

This particular gate does not cover a 52" doorway. It goes up to 42" at a maximum. Unfortunately there aren't any extensions available. You would have to find a gate that is more suited to your needs.

Question

Will this gate attach to an iron rail?

My mom has stairs. There is a sheetrock wall on one side and a metal rail (black wrought iron) on the other side. Is there a way to attach this gate to that?

We did have to install ours to a steel rail also, it comes with wood screws so we did purchase some that go into steel. Very safe and secure.

If you can drill a hole in the metal rail to accomdate the screw required it could work. Or you could substitute the screw with a bolt that could be attached to the metal rail. the rail should be at least 2 inches wide.

answer 3
If you have someone who can drill a hole into the wrought iron then you can use a bolt and nut combination on that side.
On the sheetrock side as long as you are attaching it close to the corner then there shoudl be a stud there. See if you can borrow a stud finder from someone to comfirm there is a stud there. The supplied screws are long enough to attach firmly into the stud.

Evenflo offers a Gate Installation Kit that may help install the gate to the metal railing. Some metal railings are too narrow to use the kit and the gate cannot be installed in that location. Please call ParentLink at 800-233-5921 for more information.

It opens the whole width of your doorway. There is only a bracket mount on the wall. Unless your using a wheel chair through a narrow doorway it won't interfere. You could use it with most handicap accesible homes if you were looking for a gate though.

Almost the whole gate swings open... where the gate attaches to the wall there is a 1 or 2 inch bar that actually screws into the wall. But the gate is hinged to one of them, and other than that, yes, the whole gates swings open. There is no bar on the bottom to step over, and the width of the opening is adjustable. I do not have the max measurement, but it should say on the website what the minimum and max widths are. Hope this helps! It is a great product

With the exception of about 2 inches on each side it the gate itself is adjustable to fit the door/frame up to 42". So if you had a 42" door/frame the maximum swing you would have is 38".

What are the measurements for where the hardware would be installed into the railing and the wall? (How high from the floor?)

We installed our gate where the bottom of the bar was slightly off the floor as we had a tiny wooden piece of floor trim between the wooden floor and the base boards. The bottom of the hardware for us sits at about 8" and 27" but you can move it slightly to fit your needs. The hardware itself takes up about 3/4" each of your wall. There are four places for the hardware to attach to the railing, wall, or wherever you place it. We used this gate in our entryway/hallway because it was better than all of the other options on the market and we had a larger space than most hallway gates allowed.

I used this gate in our hallway/entryway and it works great! Because the door swings both ways, you should be able to use it at the bottom of your stairs as well.

This gate will work for bottom of stairs, as it swings either way. Just make sure you have adequate space to drill this into. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE WOOD AND /OR STUDS ON BOTH SIDES. This gate is heavy and will pull right out of drywall.
