Question

Design flaw?

Just got the 26'' Men's and 24" Women's Roadmaster MTB, first thing I notice is that, for both bikes, the front wheel will hit my foot when making a turn. Yes, the smallest distant from the front wheel to the pedals (as you turning the front wheel) is half inch, there is no way it will not hit my foot as making a turn. This looks like a design flaw to me, is it not?

Had the same problem, then notice it was because I had the arch part of my foot on the pedal, once I just used the front part of my foot I didn't have that problem, thinking about getting stirrups to keep me honest, enjoy your bikes

As terrible as these bikes are, no. It sounds like rider error. While going around a turn if you bring your inside leg to the up position and your outside leg to the down, you won't hit the front wheel. This also keeps from hitting oor scrubbing the inside peddle on the ground during fast, tight turns.

I had the same problem! I just go it yesterday...Riding it yesterday and today I thought the same exact thing! After googling, and some research.. I found I put the front wheel on, with the front head tube backwards( the upside down pitch fork looking thing) It looks right, but it's not... the braking gear should be outside, and not inside.. this solved the problem.. look at the pics as well..

I don't have an answer, but have the *EXACT* same issue! Either the frame is too small, or the wheels are too big. Checking here to see if anyone else has this issue, and looks like you do. I got mine a couple of weeks back, so wondering if this is an issue with a particular shipment?

Can it be assembled for me at the store? I live alone and will not be able to assemble it.

Or, does it come assembled?

Yes, walmart does it for free. Just let them know that it needs to be assembled when the product arrives at store (if you choose ship to store for free). You may need to wait couple of days before you get the bike.

I bought TWO -- One in the store, assembled; you can even have it ship to site and they will assemble for you. I bought a second one online and had it shipped to a cabin we stayed at - I figured it was cheaper than renting for 2 weeks -- I assembled it with a few tools -- I'm no handyman but it was a snap to set up!

Question

When I pedal the bike makes a clicking sound. What is it?

It clicks only when I am pedaling but not always. I can coast for a few seconds and pedal again and the clicking may go away. My bike is a 26" Roadmaster. The clicking is a sharp metalic sound. Very annoying.

The clicking noise you hear is the gears not fully meshing, which requires an adjustement to the derailer, either front or back, if you don't feel comfortable with trying this you should let a shop adjust it for you

It sounds like one of the deraileurs are out of adjustment. Take it to a bike shop for a tune up.

answer 4
It could be one of a dozen things. The most common would be a dry, poorly lubricated chain. Do not ever use WD-40. Use a proper oil or thin grease.

The next common culprit is pedal bearings. Make sure the pedal is tightened securely to the crankarm, and inspect the pedals for excessive play.

A frequent cause of a clicking sound is the bottom bracket creaking. This requires a crank removal tool and a bottom bracket socket to correct.

Check your bicycle for things in the chain or spokes such as sticks, switches, leaves, paper, etc.
Make sure your laces or clothing is not interfering with the wheels, chain, etc and not flapping against the bike.

One from a real bike shop. Discount store bikes are made for people of "average" height. Bike shops carry many frame sizes to fit all people.

Most likely, but you really really don't want to do any jumping, curb hopping, or wheelies.

This bike should tolerate your weight, but you must consider you are going to be over the weight limits for many bicycles, even much more expensive shop bikes.

Please replace the rubber rim strips with proper cotton rim strips, or you can improvise with a 1/2 roll of good quality vinyl electrical tape. Otherwise, when the rubber rim strip tears at the valve stem area, you will get a flat and destroy your wheel. Please inflate to maximum listed pressure listed on tire sidewall.

You must learn to ease up on pedaling when shifting gears. If you continue to pedal hard when shifting, you may break teeth off of the rear cogs. Lubricate your cables with Jigaloo (NOT WD40 which takes off lubricant and dries up!)

You may find you wear out chains faster than lighter people. Get a KMC Bushingless Z Chain (most common chain in US, about $5) for replacement.

Keep an eye out for loose spokes on the wheels. If you don't know how to true wheels, learn, or you will probably pay $30 to a shop to have it done, maybe $60 with both wheels.

I was close to your specs when I first bought the bike. And it should hold ya just fine. I'm slighly shorter at 6', but there's plenty of adjustment in the seat post for your height. The only thing you should be concerned about is the cheesy pedals they use. There plastic and flimsy looking. I swapped mine out from day one with a set I bought at a local bike store for around $15... Good luck!!!

no it's all allen keys and basic ratchet set for nuts and bolts, u'd need a phillips and flat head screw driver and thats about it really they assemble the bike for free at any walmart so if u order the bike online and take it to the store they can assemble it for you at the store and then u just might need to check their work and tighten some things hear and there but other then that i bought mine straight from the store and the bike just needed some minor tightening and adjusting and it was good to go

The first one I got had a bent wheel. I had another one sent out and it was good. Just check what you get. In my opinion, the bike is well worth the money. Gears do shift properly (they're adjustable) but it's a twist shift so not the greatest.
