I'm located in Oregon. But that is exactly what I purchased this modem to do. Unplugged the comcast modem, replaced it with this modem, called comcast gave a representative the MAC address from the label on the modem, and returned the old one. Now no more $7 lease fee. Hope this helps.

This modem is a standard modem for COMCAST customers. I do not believe AT&T Uses this hardware for their connection. Contact your local AT&T office to find out what brands, models, and types of modem will be appropriate for your package. It is important to get the right one.

If you receive internet service through AT&T DSL, then this will NOT work for you. Cable Modems are used for cable TV type providers. You're looking for a "DSL Modem".

No, the USB port on the back of the modem is a type-B connector and the connector on the Magic Jack controller is a type-A. They are made this way to prohibit backwards communications.

As of today's(Oct 24th) local office visit, for Comcast "extended" basic 80(+/-) TV channels and Internet bundle(my choice), this version 2.0 modem is good to go! Best guess is there are several modems depending on your application. It appears to be a matter of how you will use it. It also appears to be more complicated than it needs to be; as it changes from region to region. Best regards!

answer 2
Visit Comcast's DOCSIS Devices page for list of approved modems.
The only DOCSIS 3.0 Motorola modems listed are: SB 6120; SB 6121 and SBG 6580(modem gateway). Those available at W-M are higher cost than the SB 5101U.
Regret this answer is so dated - just getting around to my own "research".

The USB is actially an output similar to the ethernet output. I think some laptops allow you to connect to the modem via USB instead of ethernet port. In that case, you can use this USB port.

Yes, TWC uses this exact model also. Call TWC Tech support to get it connected properly...it must be registered for TWC equipment to be able to work with it. Give TWC the MAC address, from the ID label on the box.
