Duracell makes the best batteries.

One very important thing to consider is pre-charged vs. NOT pre-charged. These particular batteries are pre-charged and have an mAh of 800, which is basically the same as the Energizer AAA rechargeables. However, the ones that are NOT pre-charged have an mAh of 1000 and will hold a charge substantially longer than these. Unfortunately, most stores are more likely to carry the ones that are pre-charged, presumably because they assume that people prefer convenience over quality. Because of that, the ones that are not pre-charged and have the higher mAh are harder to find, especially AAA, and it's very easy to accidentally grab the pre-charged ones if you're not paying very close attention. I've done that a few times and learned the hard way to pull out my magnifying glass and verify the mAh before buying.

Though not clearly visible on the external packaging, each battery has a on the label in fine print, the total mAh capacity of the battery. For example, Duracell AAAs have 1000mAh, which is 25% higher than Eveready AAAs having 800mAh, thus Duracell is a superior AAA battery.

Yes there are two basic types NiMH and NiCD. The NiMH are better for most applications. Batteries are rated in MaH. Basically the higher this number is the longer they will hold up between charges.
