Technically yes, but effectively no. I can get it to work on the GV cans of chicken, but it is difficult. My wife can not and it jams. I have learned to just use the old manual can opener.

That said, this opener is fantastic and we love it. My wife calls it her little 8-ball.

The cutting blade is in the movable portion of the opener, if you look at it,that whole movable part comes out. Just look for the place where it connects to the base and raise it up until it will not go any more and it should slide out so you can sumerge that part in soapy water to clean. The instructions show a picture I beleive.

It is rechargeable, there is a charger that you plug into the outlet, and then recharge the battery similar to your cell phone. I leave mine tucked behind the blender so it is easy to plug in when the can opener needs it, which is not too often it holds its charge for quite a few days.

It took me several times to get use to starting it...I think I made it harder than really is. It has a guide post that you lay on the lid and you have to pay attention to lining up the cutter inside the lid lip. You DON'T have to hold the can with one hand and opener with the other, so I think with practice one could learn to do it one-handed. But engaging the cutter requires a little more finesse than lowering the lever on a stand-alone opener.

i would not recomend this for one hand use! You do need to hold the can firmly with one hand and engage the blade with the other hand! I would recomend the "as seen on tv" Tornado can opener. I have this one also and can use it with one hand. Its not heavy, uses regular batteries and easy one handed use in my opinion. Hope this helps!

Thank you for your question. When placing the unit on a can this may require the use of two hands. Raise the piercing lever up and position can opener so that the rim of the can is firmly against the can guide and under the cutting blade. The base (feet) of the unit will be parallel to the counter. Press the piercing lever all the way down to energize the can opener and pierce the can. It is not necessary to hold the lever down once cutting begins. Except for short cans or cans with a small diameter, you can let the can opener rotate freely around the top of the can without holding it. The motor will automatically stop when the lid has been cut.
