no it is not bad at all, depends on the signal the tv is receiving from your cable provider. the digital / hd signal is outstanding, but an analog or cable box signal fed to the tv isn't all that great - although you'll be able to watch tv, these type of tv's are built for the digital / hd type of signals.

How reliable is your 40" Element?

So this TV looks like a great buy, plenty of plugs, great resolution, perfect refresh rate, and a great size. The ONLY thing keeping me from buying this thing right now is the brand name. I have never heard of Element, are they reliable, how long has your guys's lasted without any issue? Are they well made, do they seem solid?

I had the same worry. It's been golden. Running Blu Ray, Cable, PC through the VGA. No problem with anything. I've been shopping for a set like this for more than a year. It's 1/3 of the price for the same performance (for me and I've waited a month to review this set).

How come the tv doesn't recognize any remote?

Check the webpages for the remote info codes. I purchased a panasonic generic remote and it runs the TV, cable, Blu Ray, and sound system.

i use my direct tv remote. when i want to turn the tv on or off slide your remote to the right .. to "tv" and hit the power button. to turn it on have remote still in "tv" mode and hit power..then slide the remote all the way back to the left and select your programs. It works like that for me. not good at giving directions; hope this makes sense to you.

Cable providers only broadcast in 1080i and for some channels and providers (if SD) the 60hz would be enough. The problem is probably your provider or source (not the TV).

the 120 hertz rating just means that is the maximum the tv can refresh the image. Most common electronics such dvd players or even xbox's only put out a 60 hz signal which the tv automatically broadcasts in. If you want to see 120 hz on your tv buy a different dvd player or upgrade your cable.

maybe you need to get a HD package from your cable co. or satilite co. then you can get 1080i not 1080p.no one yet broadcast in 1080p yet you can only get 1080p picture thru your dvd player

the number's that the tv is displaying is based on the video input the television is receiving. For example, antenna broadcasts are put out in 480i definition at 60 hz. If you want to watch 720p definition you would need to get an hd cable or satellite package. The tv is just displaying the signal type and frequency that it's receiving. About the only way to get true 1080i displayed on your television would be to buy a blu-ray player or something that will put out a 1080 signal.

It all depends on the source. If the source is just normal cable (without an HD box), you will receive a 480 picture. To get a 720p/1080i/1080p picture, you will need to hook the TV up to a HD box from your cable/satellite provider, a blu-ray player, or a xbox/playstation.

No, this is not a plasma TV. LCD televisions use a totally different technology than plasma televisions. Plasma tv's use a technology similar to fluorescent light bulbs, whereas LCD tv's us a liquid crystal technology. From personal experience, LCD is a better choice because of its lifespan and its better viewing angles.

i bought mine for gaming. While the screen response isn't equal to the CRT (old tube televisions) the response time is decent. There is hardly any screen lag at all, about as much as you're going to get with any 1080 television. I recommend this tv to everyone as a great gaming tv.
