Questions & Answers for Nostalgia Electrics Nostalgia Electrics Hard & Sugar-Free Candy Cotton Candy Maker, PCM805

Question

Would this machine be okay for a group of 15-20 people?

I work in a nursing home and I think my residents would love something like this. I just want to make sure it's worth it. We would have about 15-20 people participating at a time.

Senior Residents that do not have really good hand agility may have some difficulty with this as you need to be pretty quick with the hand and turning the cone for the sugar cotton to grab onto to make it fluffy. Otherwise the cotton overloads and drops down to the bottom creating a huge mess and clumps.

I would say no. It makes a much smaller serving of cotton candy than what you get at the circus or amusement park. I would say by about five uses back to back it would need to be cooled and cleaned. Sugar builds up on the outer bowl. I think this machine is more for individual-family use. More a fun thing than a truly productive machine. Maybe for 4-6 people at a time. They would have fun making it though!

Don't think it will be fast enough, It only makes a little bit on every 1 scoop of sugar that it will allow at a time. My 3 small girls were eating it faster than I could work it. You can only put in 1 scoop at a time, which only makes a small cone. Then you have to repeat. By the time you get the first one made its already eaten. LOL So No I would not recommend it for a group of people - too small to keep up.

I would say no. I mean.. it can, BUT, it would take a VERY long time to get through 15-20 people. Not to mention alot of extra build up of melted candy in the bowl. It's best for small family use.

For your situation,, Get two of them! The floss Sugar lasts a long time. It is better for a smaller group, because of the size,, But it is fun! I would try it! As long as everyone shares,, about 4 people can eat off of one cone!

answer 10
I found that each batch only takes about a minute, as long as the unit is hot. The problem with having so many people is that each batch is made from no more than two hard candies and makes a ball of cotton candy about the size of a softball or a grapefruit. You could make cotton candy for a group that large, but it would probably take you about 20-30 minutes. On the plus side, each person could pick out the two flavors of candies they want.

I know this question is old but with the amount of people saying no I figured I'd answer for anyone else that needed to know.
In a cotton candy machine you can use plain white sugar but it needs to be cane sugar. Beet sugar is to heavy and quite frankly stinks in the machines. If you buy the powdered dye to mix with the sugar less is better when adding it. To much of the dye can mess up your machine. You want to shoot for pale pink or blue or whatever color your using.
I ran food concessions at fairs for years and years all we used was c&h cane sugar or the generic equivalent.

You CAN use plain sugar and it WILL NOT hurt the machine. Cotton candy is nothing but spun sugar.
You might want to add a little flavor by crushing up some cotton candy and mixing a little with the sugar. You can really get some cool flavors that way.

Yes but there isn't much taste. According to the instructions you can add flavoring but it doesn't say what kind. I don't think extract would work because it would add moisture. Maybe a drop of flavored oil but I'm not sure if this would cause a problem with the machine.

No way. This is good for like a nuclear family setting. It takes a little while to make each one. I recommend that you rent a machine for your party. They are fast and the real deal. We really like our little machine but it will not make that many servings. It will take too long. I make about 6 at a time and that's all I can handle. I have 4 kids and this little machine is for one family use only. Hope that helps you.

No. It only makes a small amount at a time and the unit needs to be cleaned after 5 or 6 "batches" to keep it working as intended. You would have to rent a professional machine for that many people.

Do not mix with water, just use about 1 teaspoon and give it enough time to heat up and melt the sugar. We have used vanilla pink "flosssugar".
We tried peppermints and butterscotch that worked too. Werthers Original was really tasty.

answer 9
It depends on wether you have floss sugar or flossine.
Flossugar is flavoring, coloring and sugar already premixed and ready to use in your machine.
Flossine is concentrated flavoring and coloring that you mix with regular sugar to use in cotton candy machines.
The Flossugar premix is more convenient because everything is premixed.
Using Flossine gives you more control over how much flavoring and coloring is in your candy.
The packaging should tell you which you have. Either can be used.
