Hi Anonymous! The Chamberlain model NLS1 wireless intercom can be used in several ways. The push to talk option opens the channel when the button is pressed. You can also set up conference mode that allows all intercoms to communicate on an open channel. Or you can set the intercom in one room to monitor mode. Allowing you to monitor any noise or conversation coming from the room. When using monitor mode for an extended period of time its recommended to add the optional transformer to the intercom to prevent the batteries form draining.

Hi bobtail, thank you for your question. The intercom system does accept a 12v transformer but this is sold as an optional accessory and is not packaged with the product.

Thank you for your question Scotty. The NLS1 intercoms have a range of up to 1000 feet (300 m) and are powered by 4 AA batteries. You can also use a 12 Volt 300mA DC power adapter (not included) if you wish. Using the intercoms in 2 seperate buildings is possible, if the buildings are within the 1000 foot range. Some devices that can interfere with the range are cell phones, cordless phones or other radio devices. Also placing the intercom on or near metal objects and electrical wiring can cause interference or a diminished range.

Expandable without purchase of complete intercoms.
I need a system to put in rooms of my home. Do I have to purchase a separate intercom unit for each room? Do you have a system that is expandable for my use?

Hi Bug, thank you for your question. Our system can be expanded but only on a piece by piece basis. We do not currently offer a larger kit.
